I have a family member who is an antiques dealer and he says that by far the biggest purchasers of what he calls “black kitsch” are black people.

the also buy lots of slavery memorabilia. bills of sale. documents. historical photos. etc.

nothing wrong with it. it’s history and owning a historical document makes one feel closer to history somehow. lots of this stuff ends up as research material for books too.

The wife and I hit a HUGE flea market & antique festival in Virginia several years ago. Don’t remember the town name but it was an annual event near Galax, I think. There was even a gun show.

There was also more of this black “kitsch” than you could shake a stick at. I told my wife we could buy up a bunch of it but we’d have to have a secret room to display it. Really, lots of interesting items including some cast iron stuff.
