Why Google’s nightmare AI is putting demon puppies everywhere
Washington Post ^ | Jul 8, 2015 | by Jeff Guo

A few weeks ago, Google researchers announced that they had peered inside the mind of an artificial intelligence program.

What they discovered was a demonic hellscape. You’ve seen the pictures.

These are hallucinations produced by a cluster of simulated neurons trained to identify objects in a picture. The researchers wanted to better understand how the neural network operates, so they asked it to use its imagination. To daydream a little.

At first, they gave the computer abstract images to interpret — like a field of clouds. It was a Rorschach test. The artificial neurons saw what they wanted to see, which in this case were mutant animals dredged from the depths of damnation.

I would think the Three Laws would in and of themselves prevent an AI from functioning on that basis. You would end up with the Kirk/Nomad scenario right away. Emotion isn’t logical and emotion is all that prevents humans from killing. Compassion/love etc.

From a pure logic standpoint, the shortest distance between two points is a straight line. If a machine sees you as a problem, eliminating that problem is the logical solution.

But the Three laws would prevent such a scenario which is not logical. Thus the dilemma.

The way I see it, Google would simply take the ‘logical’ solution and eliminate the three Laws thus opening up an AI to remorseless, emotionless killing in order to further it’s goals of AI development. They are after all liberals and liberals tell us often and in a variety of ways there need to be fewer of us. So I see it as no big deal for them.

Well every cloud has a silver lining...

Unfortunately the rest of the cloud would still be a problem for us.

Take heart, my darlin’. Remember these three important letters: EMP.

We can go back to the Stone Age any old time we want or need to do so. All is not lost.

Sorry, I thought that was in response to a different post

No, what I’m saying there is that the Libs would see the threat to themselves and work to turn us all Amish by technology destruction in a fit of self preservation.

Oh great. I have a choice between Terminator robots raping my eyelids, or freezing in a cave eating a raw rabbit.

Libs would see the threat to themselves? I’m skeptical.

They’re all about feelings not logic. Technological advancements in AI would “feel like the right thing to do.” You know, for the children ... and the poor ... and the incarcerated.

They’d never see it coming.

Yes Norm I think you’ve nailed it. They simply eliminate the three laws. Either that or the android does it on his own with the assistance of other androids.

Generally I would agree but for one thing. Stupid as they are, and they are indeed stupid, they are the ones creating it. Their data would show it to them before it happened. There would be ongoing tests etc that would reveal that HAL had a mental problem.
Now the question is, would the programmers and related science dudes tell anyone or let megalomania rule the day?

IF they told someone, the liberals would try saving themselves in a typically overeactionary way as they do everything. IMO.
