Presidential candidate and Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina) is furious about Fox News' rules for the first GOP primary debate.
In a Fox News interview on Friday, Graham blasted the right-leaning network's "dumb" rules, which will limit the participants to 10 candidates polling the best in an average of the five most recent national polls.
"I think that this is a dumb way to weed out the field," Graham declared.
Many critics say the August 6 debate's rules harm the candidates campaigning in the early voting states and elevate those who have been getting those most national TV exposure or who have run for president before.
With around 17 Republican candidates running, there will be a number of furious White House hopefuls left out of the crucial opportunity to be heard before a major television audience. Graham, who is lagging in national polls, clearly agrees with that assessment. He argued that July 2015 is too early to even pay attention to polls.
"Brad Pitt would be in the debate in August. Anybody with any celebrity would be in the debate," he said. "I don't mind weeding out the field over time."
"It's July for God's sakes!" he added. "So a national poll is a lousy way, in my view, to determine who should be on the stage. And I quite frankly resent it."

Maybe there needs to be a “false-flag” campaign where Tea Partiers can loudly proclaim:
“WEBB, not JEB!”
Must be nice to chuck $5K down the toilet for these people.
Lindsey thinks that soon-to-be-president-elect Hillary should choose the debate participants.
I remember Ronald Reagan grabbing a Microphone saying, "I Paid for this Microphone." Seemed to work out for him.
The call them by their correct name, "Turkey Shoots."
Multi-phase debate, random-selection participation, elimination rounds, and 5 finalists.
That oughta do it.
That’s the plan...The fact that few people, like us, have figured it out, pretty much sums up why we will be politically ostracized for not toting the GOP leaderships line...
At least I will be...But I’m ok with it...
I agree 100%. Recently read thru all the Lincoln-Douglas debate. The level of intelligence and eloquence was just astonishing after watching our “debates.”
26 people grabbing a microphone? Better be a big microphone.
In any case, if Fox is staging the debate, they paid for the microphone.
“If you gave me a choice of Hillary or Graham....Id actually vote for Hillary.”
I live in the state stupid enough to put Graham in the senate and if my choice is between Hillary or Graham I will write in someone or vote for a splinter candidate. Nothing less than a gun to my head could get me to vote for Hillary and I am not even sure about that.
“If we last that long after all is said and done...”
At her age and being an apparent alcoholic, not to mention other health issues I wouldn’t put Hillary’s chances of living that long very high. As for the chances of the USA surviving eight years of her in the white house I put the chance at about one in one thousand tops. Of course first we have to survive another year and a half of the current charlatan, I would not take an even money bet on that.
Though he’d never get my vote, he’s dead on the money.
Trump is a ‘fringe’ candidate, and the only one from my memory, aside from Perot, that is changing the landscape...and scaring the D.C. crowd to wet their pants.
Does ANYONE think, w/out *some* ‘outside-voice’ we’d be hearing word ONE about illegal immigration, (fair)trade deals or any other Constitutional crisis?? If so, I got some prime beachfront AZ real estate for sale.
One BIG reason our Republic has been going to sh!t, is the establishment(s) sound-factory, popularity contests...aka elections.
One only need look back to ‘14, for all ‘promises’ from leadership, that were vaporware after sweeping ‘em into office.
You do remember what Perot did in that election cycle he participated in...
I was thinking just a simple “cage” match...
How about doing something similar to the March Madness brackets. I’d have initial debates with 4 candidates picked at random. Let the top 2 from each debate advance to the next debate until they are down to 4 candidates.
... or something similar to this. That way the kooks get their chance, the networks get their ratings, etc.
Trump is not dropping out and he has the money to see it through.
The Bushnews Network ...ah I mean Foxnews network will try to hurt Trump but it will backfire on them. Going to be some Trump-arse-kicking going on!
Well fortunately for me, I can’t watch FOX...
Cut the cable in 2012.
I have a soft spot for him if only because he is the only one among the group to have served in uniform. That is a sad reflection of our ‘leaders’, in my opinion.
Didn't say that, I said what I saw when they tried to shut Reagan down in a debate.
He was a JAG officer.....no chance of ever having to dodge even 1 bullet......All he was doing was getting his ticket punched for a later political run.....
