Dylann Roof, who is accused of killing nine people at a church in South Carolina three weeks ago, was only able to purchase the gun used in the attack because of breakdowns in the FBI’s background-check system, FBI Director James B. Comey said Friday.
Comey said that Roof should have been prevented from buying the .45-caliber weapon used in a shooting that authorities have said was motivated by Roof’s racist views. The political repercussions of the June 17 massacre at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston led South Carolina to remove the Confederate flag from its statehouse grounds Friday.
“This case rips all of our hearts out, but the thought that an error on our part is connected to a gun this person used to slaughter these people is very painful to us,” said Comey.
The lapse was the result of errors not only by the FBI but by the Lexington County prosecutors’ office, and Comey said he has ordered a review of procedures that led to the failure. The errors came to light as investigators examined a gun purchase Roof made two months before the shooting in Charleston.

As we all know they call for an investigation when they plan to nothing.
Nah they fixed it all when they took down the Confederate Flag.
Now we know we all the hub bub about the flag.
It was to distract us from focusing on how the FEDs dropped the ball on the background check...
But But BUtt .. Its the NRA’s fault...
Feds had a great week:
1. Dylan Roof background check failed.
2. 22 million identities stolen of Fed workers
3. Fed agent loses gun, which is used to kill innocent woman in San Fransicko.
4. Use of the IRS as a political weapon against conservatives proven.
I wonder what will happen next week?
Did they do it on purpose?
If the FBI does not approve you in so many days, your auto approved.
Did the FBI do this on purpose to defeat the auto approve going forward?
I do not trust anyone.
This kid is a useful idiot and was used the way he was supposed to be used .... and I personally believe he knew what he was doing and why ..... he had orders from the government.
But, but.. Americans won’t turn against guns unless guns are given to people who shouldn’t have them.

So the government failed to prevent him from getting a gun so the liberals’ solution is more government control of gun sales?
Why should we think they would be able to get this one right?
Why don’t they admit they messed up and resign....making excuses is all the government does.
The people responsible for the breakdown need to be canned and thrown in the jug.
Our government fails us at every turn and at every level.
And is never held accountable for their misdeeds.
I told the wife to expect a change in meme in the next month - they will go from being content that the Confederate flag is being lowered and start with, "Well they were willing to do something symbolic with the flag, now let's see them put their money where their mouth is and do something substantial like actually taking the guns".....
We all know the flag was a diversion and they will be heartened at how fast so many caved - the brainwashing is nearly complete.
