A North Carolina church has sparked a debate with its decision to fly the Christian flag above Old Glory.
Elizabeth Baptist Church in Shelby, N.C., held a flag raising ceremony Sunday to hoist the Christian flag above the stars and stripes.
Rit Varriale, pastor of Elizabeth Baptist Church, was on Fox and Friends this morning to explain his churchs decision.
God is first, he said, adding that American culture has been pushing back against traditional Christian values for quite some time.
Varriale said that hes a veteran who loves his country. He explained that he was willing to serve so that Americans could have the freedom to burn, spit and walk on the American flag, but also so that people would have the right to express their religious beliefs.
Im incredibly patriotic, he said. At the same time, Im a Christian.

First off, there’s no such thing as a Christian flag.

And they are right, imo. At least flying them side by side, on same level.

Anyone care to guess how long before they go after the Navy for flying the church pennant?

I fully support this move!! Nothing is greater.

Nonsense!
God has no flag, and the “Cross” on the “Christian” flag is the sun worshiper’s cross (cross of Mithra) not representative of anything truly ‘Christian.’ It is the symbol of the positions of the sun.
Confusion reigns supreme.

In the Navy they used to fly a church pennant over the ensign while services were being conducted. They had a Christian cross and a Ten Commandments for Jewish services. Don't know if they still do, but that was the standard forever.

According to Wikipedia, this flag was designed around 1897 in Coney Island, probably by a Methodist minister. I lived in a Methodist camp town for ten years and I think I remember seeing it at their giant auditorium.

The Navy used to fly a Christian cross pennant above the U.S. flag on their ships on Sundays and during burials at sea.
It symbolized one nation under God. I don’t see a problem with the Shelby NC church flying a Christian flag above the national colors.

Big Whoop! Any two-bit minister can fashion a flag. The fact is there is no such thing as a Christian flag. And, even if we allow a flag to fly over the Stars and Stripes, it won’t take long for the Crescent and Star to fly over the Stars and Strips.
