Ted Cruz Sets Record Straight With Karl Rove
Ted Cruz 2016 ^ | 6/28/15 | Ted Cruz

Rove Today: “When Mr. Cruz and I talked in 2009, I was not raising money for the Bush Library, nor was former President Bush 43 going to endorse some unnamed Dallas state representative for state attorney general, nor were any library donors “berating” me.”

Rove in 2009: “[T]he distress you mention is not mine or 43 — it is the people raising money for the library who are also Branch fans and will not understand why one part of the Bush family is for not-the-guy while they are raising money big bucks for library.”

HOUSTON, Texas – The presidential campaign of U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, today released the following statement from Sen. Cruz and earlier emails between Cruz and Karl Rove setting the record straight regarding Rove’s blatantly false recap of their 2009 conversations (as posted here on medium.com).

Sen. Cruz:

“I have known Karl Rove for a long time, and have considered him a friend. I understood that my recounting in my book A Time for Truth the threats he made in the 2009 Texas Attorney General race—and the disparaging remarks he made about President George H.W. Bush—would cause him some discomfort.

“But I never imagined that his response would be a straight-out falsehood. It’s disappointing; this is why people are so cynical about politics, because too many people are willing to lie.

“No part of our 2009 conversation concerned my good friend Greg Abbott.

“Below is email correspondence, contemporaneous from that week, demonstrating the veracity of my account. Karl admits, in writing, that his concern was for “the people raising money for the library who are also [then Texas Rep. Dan] Branch fans and will not understand why one part of the Bush family is for not-the-guy while they are raising money big bucks for library.”

2009 Email Correspondence:

From: Karl Rove To: Ted Cruz Sent: Wednesday, July 1, 2009 8:24 AM Subject: Re: Follow-up from today

thanks — I appreciate your doing what you can to keep this down — the distress you mention is not mine or 43 — it is the people raising money for the library who are also Branch fans and will not understand why one part of the Bush family is for not-the-guy while they are raising money big bucks for library.

Thanks too for clarifying that you asked to visit with 41; be as nonchulant as possible about the gift and we’ll muddle through

Karl,

I am very sorry if I have done anything to distress you or President Bush 43 in any way.

Over the past several years, you’ve been extraordinarily generous in providing advice and insight re the AG campaign, and I have endeavored to follow your wise counsel to the letter. When we last spoke in January, you advised that the best way to convince Branch not to run was to bring aboard as many “old bulls” across the state as possible, so that the rest of the state would counteract his natural base in Highland Park. Since then, I’ve spent 18 hours a day doing nothing but working to follow that course of action, and we’ve been fortunate to enjoy significant success.

None of that matters, though. I got my start in politics (such as it was) working for you and for President Bush 43, and I’ve spent much of my adult life working to support the President. The last thing I would ever want to do is place either of you in a difficult situation.

When I asked to visit with President Bush 41, and he very kindly agreed, I imagined that we would spend maybe 20 minutes talking about the race, he would give his insights on Texas politics, and that would be it. I could not have been more astonished when he offered his support and gave me a personal check for the campaign.

Obviously, I recognize that President Bush 41’s support is a very big deal, and inded I had been in discussions with his office about our issuing a press release about the endorsement. Given the concerns you expressed this afternoon, I have told 41’s office that we will skip the press release altogether (see below).

His support will of course attract attention (much of which will be beyond my control), but I will very much follow your counsel to downplay the support and not highlight it in any way.

My hope is that this race will ultimately end up in a win-win scenario, that Dan will choose to run for the new Dallas congressional seat that will be drawn in 2012 and that he and I can work together as friends and allies for a long time. I know that a number of key donors have been urging precisely that course of action, which, if Dan were to choose to follow, would perhaps alleviate some of the concerns we discussed.

I know that it doesn’t rise to the importance of what you have been doing these past eight years, but I do think there is a real need right now for new leadership in the Republican Party, and I am hopeful that this campaign can play at least some role in helping provide that leadership. Your legacy and President Bush 43’s legacy, and especially the enormous progress y’all made in the Hispanic community, are too important not to keep pressing ahead.

Karl, you’ve been a friend and mentor a long time, and I value that friendship immensely. Please let me know anything I can possibly do to address your and President Bush 43’s concerns.

Thanks so much.

Ted.

—– Forwarded Message —- From: Ted Cruz To: President George H.W. Bush’s assistant Sent: Tuesday, June 30, 2009 11:19:00 PM Subject: Discretion being the better part of valor

Jean,

I spoke with Karl this afternoon, and he expressed real concerns that our drawing attention to President Bush 41’s very kind support of the campaign would put President Bush 43 in a difficult position. The last thing I want to do is cause any trouble, so it’s probably wiser just to forego this press release.

So, unless you disagree, I think it probably makes sense simply to include 41 on our overall list of donors, but not to do any separate release or anything highlighting his support, for which I remain deeply, deeply grateful.

Thanks so much,

Ted.

Karl, you are a transparent liar ....

Rove Today: “When Mr. Cruz and I talked in 2009, I was not raising money for the Bush Library [here is the first 'white lie', he holds a 'thin reed' that he personally wasn't directly raising money] , nor was former President Bush 43 going to endorse some unnamed Dallas state representative for state attorney general [here again he takes liberty with 43, knowing that he won't refute ToKyo in public, even if GHWB truly supported Cruz as the emails document] , nor were any library donors [the "donors" may have not directly talked to Rove, but the fundraising bundlers who talked with them sure were "berating" ToKyo about it] “berating” me.”

“It is impossible to believe that Karl Rove would take ANY constructive criticism, even when laid out before him in simple and logical terms. Karl Rove is an ideologue....”

Rove has no equal, except perhaps Cankles, in being full of himself and treating anyone who dare question his authority with absolute contempt and hatred, since after all, he is the one supreme being who God personally blessed with all the knowledge and wisdom that ever was and ever will be.

I just love reposting this video clip, since he has such a fond regard for his behavior here.

You don't raise $50+MM in a few months and be considered an also-ran.

You can see how biased the polls are at any one point in time to any one candidate.

Hugh Hewitt has it right I think.......Cruz takes Iowa, doesn't do well in NH, holds his own in SC and then takes Texas into Super Tuesday as the leader.

Trump is setting the stage for Cruz and Cruz is responding in a most Reaganesque way.

AS I understand it ; as the initial invasion of Iraq progressed in the spring-summer of 2003 and no great amounts of WMD’s turned up Rove began to advise Bush that his admin should begin to admit that “ we had the intel off a bit “ He began to advise Bush , for whatever stupid and insane reasons , that our satellites and intel did not show large covoys exiting Iraq into Syria , and later on when many stockpiles of various types of WMD’s WERE found , that Bush keep that classified and NOT reveal the information to the media , as it would make the 1st pronouncements look ill informed ( or whatever) That Bush 43 ever listened to this man or took his advice was the death nell for his legacy and , to a degree , American foreign policy in the global war on terror ever since . Rove handed the Obama types all te ammo they ever needed to hammer home their points and to defeat the R’s ever since . Rove should be branded and sent into permanent exile , if anything . He hurt America more than anyone knows .
Today , in the White House , Rove’s role has been replaced by Valerie Jarrett , and she’s undoubtedly even worse .

Yeah? When are the elections starting? Tomorrow or in 6 months time?
Cruz is actually doing better than he was a this stage in his campaign for the US Senate. If I am not mistaken, he was polling at just 3% early in his run for the US Senate. And he was running against a big ass GOPe guy who was raising like 10 times as much money was Cruz was at the time. He still ended up beating the guy.
What you need to look at is how much money Cruz is raising right now, how many people have contributed to his campaign and how much grassroots support he has and how committed/energized they are. Cruz is kicking butt in all these categories. He already has enough money to run for the entire length of the primaries, and he still has 6 months more to raise money. Plus he doesn't need to raise as much money as Jeb Bush who has zero grass roots support.

Cruz is a mentally ill man just like Obama. He has virtually every damn symptom of narcissistic personality disorder.

If you think Obama is a nut case Cruz is the same. Cruz has one of the worse cases of narcissistic personality disorder period.

Chuckle. Is that you Keith Olbermann?
The difference between Ted Cruz and Barak Obama is like the difference between day and night. Obama is as close to pure evil in a human being as I have ever seen in my life. On the other hand, Ted Cruz is about the most honest, most principled, most decent politician I have ever seen. Obama is corrupt through and through, and is very probably on hallucinogenic drugs even while occupying the White House.

Yes, they have 180 differing views, but; I do not want a mentally ill man for President. Cruz would not have the time of day for you or anyone unless you/they graduated from one of the so called big three ivy league schools. These articles are all about the stupid arguments he likes to manufacture into something to make news. Cruz is an arrogant, mentally ill asshole who damn sure does not need nuclear codes. He rarely says anything about a real worthy goal and what he will do to get it accomplished as it is always about Cruz. Poor Cruz was abused.

Ted Cruz is brilliant yes, but never arrogant. He is by far the best presidential candidate either party that we've had for decades. It's lucky we have a guy of his caliber running for president for the GOP.
As for your comparison of Ted Cruz to that son of the devil, Bill Ayers and Jeremiah Wright, Barak Obama, it's the most stupid thing I ever heard.
