Gun owners across the U.S. continued their unprecedented spending spree in 2014, buying firearms and ammunition at a record clip and, whether they knew it or not, pumping hundreds of millions of dollars into wildlife conservation programs. Advertisement
The federal excise tax on new firearms, ammunition and archery gear collected at the manufacturers level jumped to $824 million in 2014, up from the all-time high of $812 million in 2013 and more than triple the amount from a decade ago, according to recent federal data.

So, will the lyin' king and the anti's receive an award SAMMI for cranking up firearm and ammo sales to new highs? Oh dang. I musta forgot that the momunists and their ilk keep telling us fewer and fewer people are buying guns. Odd that the eco wackos complain and yet check the charts that show how much freedom loving, bible totin', gun maniacs contribute to wildlife/conservation coffers.

Last time I was at Sportsmans Warehouse they seemed to have a pretty good supply of components on hand. Not quite as inexpensive as it used to be though. :>}

Like zer0’s gonna let conservation money slip through his fingers that is suppose to maintain habitat that may be used for hunting . He may preserve his Islamic outreach program.....that will protect animals.

Well except for the young lady who wantonly slaughtered the old lame giraffe or Doug Giles who just got back from a safari and took out an old lion. Too bad the idiots out there see a single picture and assume they know the entire story. I’ve had to correct a lot of them. But with the libs, to them a single picture with no context tells the whole story. Shoot straight and don’t waste any shoots.

I order all my components from online. Gotta go in with other people though, to assuage the hazmat fees.
Midwayusa and wideners are good places.

Yup. I’ve seen some good deals (comparatively) on line too.

Did you ever see a village of Africans reduce an elephant carcass to nothing in a couple of hours? Amazing ......and the white hunter keeps the trophy

buying firearms and ammunition at a record clip and, whether they knew it or not, pumping hundreds of millions of dollars into wildlife conservation programs. There are no greater conservationists around than hunters... but this isn't fitting The Narrative, so the implication has to remain that "gun nuts want to kill all wildlife".

Kinda like a school of pirhanas (sp) stripping a carcass to nothing but bone. Except the villagers use the bones too. Not a whole lot goes to waste. But, when it comes to the poachers over there, shoot on sight sounds like an idea I can live with. We know it there’s a demand, somebody will step in to fill it.

Are you comparing that to what happens whenever Wal-Mart announces “We have .22 ammo in stock, no limit!”

I wonder what single-digit percentage of this money is actually going towards what it's meant for.
Just like state "highway funds" go to maintaining roads.

Funny. An acquaintance passed recently and I met with the widow and went on line to give her some idea of the value of her husbands firearms. She gave me an open box of 555 rounds of .22 LR for my trouble. What a good deal

I've been ordering most everything from Midway, Natchez and Wiedners for the past couple of years. Last Friday I stopped in the Cabelas in Prairie du Chien WI on my way home. They had a lot of powder and primers. I picked up a couple of pounds of 335 and 4064. Sure makes a difference when the hazmat goes away.
Things seem to be loosening up some.

Treasury dept collects but it never goes into the treasury. 100% turned over to USFWS who deduct an administrative fee, which can sometimes get excessive, then grant it back to the states who have to match. Some of it can get porked at the state level or mis-used.
Pittmann Robertson Act was passed in the 1930s. In the 50s they passed Dingell Johnson Act which works the same way except for fishing. More recently the Wallop Breaux Act on boat fuel.
Texas has excise tax on "sporting goods" that works the same way.
There is another source of federal money that comes from the offshore drilling royalties that is used by the feds and states. It funds land and water conservation, parks, and historical sites.
