'Sweetcakes' owner defiant in face of $135,000 fine

After getting hit with a financially-crushing $135,000 fine Thursday for their decision to not bake a cake for a lesbian wedding, the owner of the Oregon "Sweetcakes by Melissa" bakery has a dire warning for Americans.

"For years, we've heard same-sex marriage will not affect anybody," Aaron Klein said in an interview with The Blaze. "I'm here firsthand to tell everyone in America that it has already impacted people."

Aaron and his wife Melissa are required to immediately write a $135,000 check to the lesbian couple they refused to bake a wedding cake for, Rachel Cryer-Bowman and Laurel Bowman-Cryer, to compensate them for emotional damages.

Aaron Klein says that Oregon Labor Commissioner Brad Avakian's order requires the couple to use "personal property" rather than only business assets to pay the vast sum and that it "has the potential to financially ruin" the family of five. Avakian "knew that full well going into this," said Klein.

1) Donated to the Klein's cause yesterday, July 5th on the 'Continue to Give' site immediately after I found out about it. I don't know if it's the same as Samaritan's Purse. Have you donated?

2) I still maintain that most Christians are squawkers.

When the 'Special Rights for Sodomites' ordinance was voted in by our town's extremely leftist city council, how many Christians rose to fight? We have a city of ~130,000. The Christian activists (including me) numbered about 15-20.

These people worked tirelessly over the next 3 months to get this filth ordinance overturned. > 8000 petition signatures, same 15 - 20 people. By the grace of God, they got the ordinance overturned.

So yeah, in my experience, (most are) SQUAWKERS.

It wasn’t over the cake. The shop posted these womens address on the the shops website which led to death threats. They sued over that.

Responding late so this may have been stated already, but why not just bake the damned cake? If they are activists (as all of these cases are - they probably shopped around until they found a bakery that would not bake it) then they would not buy there and move on to the next bakery that they think won't bake it for them so they can make their point and win their lawsuit. Otherwise, for the owner, state clearly in your ads or promos that you will not bake cakes for gays, muslims, jews, christians, zoroastrians, or whatever, and let the market make its choice? IF that is against the law, so beit, and take your chances.

We're stupid. We should be going to muslim bakeries and ordering bar mitzvah cakes, or 'God Bless Jesus' cakes, then using the same tactic. If they chose to bake them, I wouldn't eat them, but just saying.

Just a follow up. These cases are non-sequiturs but help the left advance their agenda. How many of you that own businesses ask your customers what their sexual orientation or religious affiliation is before deciding if you will take their business? Seriously, I would love to hear responses from business owners who apply that standard.
