On this day in 1776, the Virginia Convention assembled in Williamsburg declared the Transylvania Colony (Kentucky) purchase by the Richard Henderson & co null and void. In doing so, Virginia asserted control over it’s western lands and declared British law over the colonies invalid.

And no doubt some people will argue that they did not have the right to do such a thing, but instead were duty bound to remain in the Union.
