The inner democrat really comes out when it comes to the confederate battle flag. Those who wave it say they support your right to free speech as long as it agrees with us. Because if you disagree with us then you’re just uneducated. I’d expect that from democrats. It’s sad to hear that from republicans defending a flag born by democrats waved in battle against them and the United States. And I agree that democrat voters who oppose said flag are uneducated about it because their party created it in the 1st place, but republican voters who oppose it know why we do.
The Rebel Flag represents rebellion. It is the symbol of the non-conformist. It is a statement of protest against centralized big government.
If I have to choose, the Republican Party can pound sand, right along with the Democrats (Communists) of today.
I will fly whatever flag I damned well please, and those who don't like it can personally try to take it down at the risk of serious injury or death.
As for education, the real issue here isn't about any one flag, it is about purging history.

The North did not raise the idea of freeing the slaves until the war was half over.
90% or more of the Rebel Soldiers were not slave owners and were not fighting for the right to own them.
Washington owned slaves. Should we disown him as the Father of the Country?

I consider George Washington to be the greatest man in the history of the Country. He owned slaves. His most trusted confidant was one of them.
What is your opinion of George Washington? Should he be purged from the history books because he owned slaves?
So what? They fought for the government that defended slavery, just like good soldiers of the Germany fought for the NAZI Party - where is the NAZI Party now in Germany? The same should be where the Demorat Party should be.

Considering it was the middle of the war, you'd think most of the able bodied men were off fighting, so it should have been pretty easy, were those in bondage so inclined.
Yeppers, a liberal red herring, used by them quite often . He was also helped get the ball rolling in the abolition of slavery. His help in creating our nation so that all men can have liberty gave good people the ability to end slavery.
