His ego is being stroked right now. He knows he's in the catbird seat and is sucking up the limelight. He knows he's the "darling" of the underdog.

Maybe I read it wrong, it’s been a long day, but I thought the court refused to hear it. By default then the lower court’s decision would hold, for now, but it’s not an actual decision.
