In the wake of several Gettysburg-area stores making announcements on if they'll continue to sell Confederate flag-related merchandise, the Lutheran Theological Seminary is making its stand.
Saturday, the day before a Living History event was slated to take place on the seminary's campus, the administration announced it would be banning symbols of hate speech and racism on seminary grounds, said the Rev. John Spangler, executive assistant to the president for communication and planning.
The ban prohibits the display of the flag or flags associated with the Confederate States of America, Spangler said.
"The subsequent use by other groups have made this impossible to maintain the symbol of what the flag stands for," he said.
The seminary still did host re-enactors from the American Living History Education Society Sunday, but without the Confederate flag, Spangler said. The re-enactment took place to depict scenes from the first day of the Battle of Gettysburg.
Many of the re-enactors did not know about the ban until getting there and most were not happy, Spangler said.

I agree totally. PC is going to be the death of our nation if we don’t rein it in. I can’t believe the Lutherans are being so idiotic in this case.
Nope, liberals don’t have to be logical, just emotional.
I would suggest that the Gettysburg crowd ponder what happens if half the tourists decide to skip Gettysburg in the future, and thus cut profits in half. The entire town is built onto vast amount of tourism and battle-chat. If you do something really stupid....you need to be responsible enough to know the consequences.
But let me guess, you would still be able to put up a poster of Lenin or Mao or a Communist flag of China, the Soviet Union or Vietnam in your dorm room or office without objection.
How soon the people forget religions involvement in the black movement in the mid 60’s.
This is no different: It is a religious movement to support the government decree in a strictly political manner...even though there was supposed to be a separation of Church and State.
Another movement by churches was in support of the gay rights fiasco too. If not for the religious zealots it is entirely possible gay rights and marriage would not occur at all.
The old phrase “do unto others as you would have them do unto you” lost its meaning long ago and now has been contorted to mean “do unto others BEFORE they can do it unto you.”
This is an ELCA affiliated sem. Not surprising at all.
So when will Hollywood use CGI to remove the confederate naval jack from all of its movies. I can’t wait to watch Gettysburg and the entire southern side has no standards or colors.
Bezmenov tried to warn us:
Stage One: Demoralization Elimination of American Exceptionalism, fundamental change of national identity, structural deconstruction of foundational principles, elimination of religion. Peer pressure by elites upon academics and society to convince that prior values were inherently flawed, racist, prejudiced etc. National identity is diluted with aspersions toward historical references. National history is re-written, re-defined, and molded to fit the new intended behavioral model and create the new values.
Stage Two: Destabilization Creation of economic, financial, and national security crisis. social crisis and breakdown of previous self-evident restrictions on moral behavior. The crisis produces benevolent leaders who will promise Social and Economic Justice.
Stage Three: Crisis (becomes accepted) Lost national identity becomes accepted A period of national rebranding transition where people are so overwhelmed by the change they become numb and begin to accept a new normal.
Stage Four: Communist Normalization the people who helped orchestrate the change are now no longer needed. The new overarching centralized governmental model begins to take control.
“Just wondering what flags will be flying in future battle re-enactments?”
Maybe those queer rainbow flags? The historic revisionists will probably say the war was about gay rights. /sarcasm
