Were All Those Rainbow Profile Photos Another Facebook Experiment?

By overlaying their profile photos with a rainbow filter, Facebook users began celebrating in a way we haven't seen since March 2013, when 3 million people changed their profile images to a red equals sign—the logo of the Human Rights Campaign—as a way to support marriage equality. This time, Facebook provided a simple way to turn profile photos rainbow-colored. More than one million people changed their profile in the first few hours, according to the Facebook spokesperson William Nevius, and the number continues to grow.

One of them was my daughter. I let her have it with several articles pulled straight from here. Another daughter private messaged me saying I was appearing “psycho”.

My wife and I sat down and counted friends of FB friends with a rainbow avatar, or some other pro-gay avatar. We limited our study to friends of friends having 200 or more friends in order to get a broader cross section of society.
The pro-gay avatars ran about 4% and were about 4 times as likely to be women than men.

OK, I use FB for communicating with folks who do costuming/reenactment/renfair/convention type stuff.
I.e. hobby/craft things.
If they want to slap a rainbow over their pic, I say to myself, OK, what they think about the SCOTUS ruling hasn’t got anything to do with the hobby.
They don’t crossdress in the reenactment groups/renfair groups/etc., so it don’t matter to me.
What —would— matter to me is if they started bombarding me with private messages advocating their position.
—THEN— I would dump em.
