SONOMA, CALIFORNIA – Calling the Confederate flag an “insensitive symbol” he personally finds offensive, NASCAR chairman Brian France said the series will be aggressive in disassociating the symbol from its events.
“We want to go as far as we can to eliminate the presence of that flag,” France told AP on Saturday. “I personally find it an offensive symbol, so there is no daylight how we feel about it, and our sensitivity to others who feel the same way.
“Obviously, we have our roots in the South, there are events in the South, it’s part of our history like it is for the country. But it needs to be just that, part of our history. It isn’t part of our future.
“We want everybody in this country to be a NASCAR fan, and you can’t do that by being insensitive in any one area.”
The flag issue was heightened last week after nine black churchgoers were slain in Charleston, South Carolina. The suspect in the case, Dylann Roof, embraced Confederate symbols before the attack, posing with the rebel battle flag. That revelation prompted a reappraisal of the role such symbols play in the South.
France admitted the Charleston church shooting has pushed the series to find a way to take a tougher stance. Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Jeff Gordon, two of NASCAR’s biggest stars, on Friday supported NASCAR’s efforts.
This week, NASCAR said it backed South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley’s call to remove the Confederate flag from state capitol grounds, and noted it bars the flag symbol in any official NASCAR capacity.

He also spit on and burned the American flag, was on a prescription drug noted for the side effect of causing violent, aggressive outbursts, and had been arrested carrying meth and lsd. What a combination! Just normal stuff!
Next he will mandate that all teams have 1 black and 1 gay crew member and demand that all cars have the rainbow flag painted where the in car cameras can see them AND that net year each multicar team have a black or crossdressing/bruce jennar driver. They will start the season with 2 wins and automatically be in the chase,just to make up for the white privilege the other drivers have.

When the clowns at NASCAR had BO’s “wife” call the start of the race a couple years ago at Homestead, I started to turn away.
I think I have watched one or two since then.

Not “by, by NASCAR”. It is going to be “By, by France”. The man is a fool and is now guaranteed a major fan uprising, esp. in the South, where NASCAR racing is viewed as next to godliness. One such place is Richmond, Va, which despite having nothing but leftist Democrat mayors, will not, if they are sane, attempt to stop the flying or showing of the Confederate flag at a race.
The fans buying power of automotive and associated products makes any attempt to interfere with fan expressions, political suicide.
I’m actually waiting to see what idiot besides France tries to do anything like he wants. With a name like “France”, winning is not an option. Just look at history.

Nothing like biting the hand that birthed and fed you. Amazing how quickly Mr. France finds a symbol of state’s rights and lawful resistance offensive. Does he plan on getting a federal subsidy for his betrayal? A neighbor was a die hard Jeff Gordon supporter until he jumped on the bandwagon. Time will tell how much of a ripple effect this has on NASCAR but jumping to the side of liberals doesn’t seem like a good move. I guess he expects them to forego their social media, computer games and wine tasting to attend a future race, but I wouldn’t bet on it.
