Thanks Jim Robinson. Always on-topic regardless of list, a ping to all lists.
It takes a real man not to weaken.
Watching the Charles Dickens episode of Bonanza.
When I was growing up, my Grandmother had a big envelope that she kept her ‘sayings’ in. She was fond of inspirational articles, poetry, certain Bible verses, and old-folks’ sayings.
One thing I remember distinctly, was a page cut from an old magazine - it would have been from the 1940s or ‘50s.
It was a story about St. Francis, who was encountered while he was working with his hoe in his garden. Someone asked him what he would do, if he learned that the world would end tomorrow; and St. Francis said, “I would keep hoeing.”
I don’t know the provenance of this story, and I’m not Catholic; but I’ve always remembered it, especially in rough times.
(Another inspirational piece that Granny was very fond of, was the Serenity Prayer.)
