GETTYSBURG (Reuters) - The U.S. National Park Service began removing Confederate flag merchandise from its bookstores and gift shops on Thursday, joining a nationwide push by lawmakers and retailers to remove the emblem, long associated with the fight to preserve slavery.
Kathy Kupper, a national parks spokeswoman, said she doesn't know how many parks had previously sold Confederate flag merchandise, but about 70 of the organization's 407 parks are related to the American Civil War.
We strive to tell the complete story of America, National Park Service Director Jonathan B. Jarvis said in a press release. Any stand-alone depictions of Confederate flags have no place in park stores.

Won’t “The Memory Hole” be filling up sometime soon?
... as if Comrade Yezhov never existed ...
To the cemetery down the street from me. This has been discussed before to keep racial tensions up. I thought the park reverts to the family if they do this.
The nation is beyond doomed.
What Slavery, that never happened!!!!
That Uncle Joe -- he was a crack-up!
Exactly the comparison that instantly came to mind. Non-History instead on non-persons, for now.
How moronic.
“What they really want is to remove any symbol or reference that ties the democrat party history of slavery, secession, the flags of the CSA and in fact the CSA itself as well as the KKK, Jim Crow, etc.”
“If they can wipe out history, they can claim no connections to any of their atrocities.”
They did that long ago. Very few Americans have a clue about US History, thanks to our liberal education system.
No, this is about softening us up, getting us used to the idea of losing fundamental rights. I think the last Right to fall will be the 2nd. I think people are going to draw the line there.....I pray.
Perfect. 1000 words.
Yes! This says it all for the times we live in!
The national hysteria is spreading. It’s amusing to see so many individuals following their fellow hysterics and showing that their powers of reasoning are not working.
I have a jerk commie lib neighbor that I can’t stand. I should get a plate that he has to see when he spies from his upper room.
Are they going to re-chisel Mount Rushmore?
I hope people stop going to Gettysburg, and that the yearly reenactment, and other regular events, like the Civil War Collectors Show & Sale are cancelled due to lack of participation. It makes me glad I visited many of the battlefields, both north and south, before this country went bat-$hit crazy.
What next? -abolish the practice of Civil War re-enactments?
Where those who DO participate on the Southern side, if caught with a rebel flag, will be thrown into the gulag?
And little noted is the fact that Forrest, who was NOT a founder of it, resigned from the Klan and cut all connections because it became too violent.

“After only a year as Grand Wizard, in January 1869, faced with an ungovernable membership employing methods that seemed increasingly counterproductive, Forrest issued KKK General Order Number One: “It is therefore ordered and decreed, that the masks and costumes of this Order be entirely abolished and destroyed.” By the end of his life, Forrest’s racial attitudes would evolve in 1875, he advocated for the admission of blacks into law school and he lived to fully renounce his involvement with the all-but-vanished Klan. A new, different, and much worse Klan would emerge, 35 years after Forrest’s death, in the wake of D.W. Griffith’s revolutionary 1915 film, Birth of a Nation, a reactionary screed with a racialist brief that had been expanded to include Catholics and immigrants of all kinds. The second Klan was never restricted to the South; its goals had nothing to do with Forrest’s vision of a restored Dixie.”
Put it in your front window.
I had a jack-off approach me 6 years ago on light pollution.
I responded that he is giving me noise pollution, and I may beat your ass. That would eliminate all the pollution at my front door.
