“Why is it that 9 people have such power?”

Judicial review is a really, really bad idea. It’s something no new, emerging nation should ever adopt. It’s anti-(small d)democratic and flies in the face of popular sovereignty. IOW, it’s kryptonite to a representative republic.

If Walker doesn’t accept the next ‘law’ will demand ‘objectors’ be shot.

Of course he can. Simply declare that marriage is between a man and a woman and see if SCOTUS can find a way to force his hand.

From Justice Scalia today: The Judiciary is the “least dangerous” of the federal branches because it has “neither Force nor Will, but merely judgment; and must ultimately depend upon the aid of the executive arm” and the States, “even for the efficacy of its judgments.”26 With each decision of ours that takes from the People a question properly left to them—with each decision that is unabashedly based not on law, but on the “reasoned judgment” of a bare majority of this Court—we move one step closer to being reminded of our impotence.

The only way he could get around it is to have the state stop issuing marriage licenses for anybody. Let the churches keep the records of marriages like they did in olden times. The government really has no need for this information, and it’s just a revenue maker........................

Smart to get beyond this and onto more important issues

So the destruction of our Constitutional Republic is not an important issue?

“10th Amendment doesn’t apply?”

I am pretty sure the 10th has been ruled null and void.
Now they are working on the first and second. After they are eliminated the other 7 of the Bill O Rights will be pretty easy.

I suspect that more states will do that.

In the meantime, just defy.

Smart to get beyond this and onto more important issues

All conservatives have heard from the GOP for decades is to just "forget out it" and move on to "more important" stuff (though they never bother to say what is "more important").

We have witnessed, in a span of less than thirty hours, the destruction of the Constitution. America is a very different place than the America we woke up in yesterday morning.

I assume by "more important issues" you are referring to fiscal matters. I'm here to tell you that the collapse of morality has been a prime catalyst for the financial problems, not the other way around. World War II was a far bigger financial drain than the current state of affairs and the fact that it came on the heals of the Depression made it worse. But the GIs came home from the War, got jobs, married WOMEN, had children, bought stuff and the economic burden of the War was soon a thing of the past.

What we have today is a government that is more interested in promoting immorality than it is in allowing America to be the "city upon the hill" that Reagan so often spoke of. America's inherent desire and destiny is to be the greatest nation the world has ever known, that's what most of us grew up believing and it's what we still want today.

The ONLY thing we need to do is take whatever steps are necessary to "secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity," and this is accomplished through a "firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence."

“More important issues”

Sure, our country is now a tyranny where all power comes from 5 unelected tyrants, but there are bigger things to talk about.

lol.

That is a laugh riot.

The olden times...

In the Plymouth Colony marriage had nothing to do with the church, it was purely a civil matter. It was also a societal expectation that people marry and have children.

Yes, the puritans or whatever you want to call them did not consider marriage “religious”, because its not, it is NORMAL for a man and a woman to marry and have children.

They are digging up bodies, burning flags, books, movies, molesting children in schools, shutting down churches, herding people to re-education camps, government officials are supporting gangs and rioters....

but there are more important issues for the GOP.....

Nothing a state does can trump the Federal rule as determined by the SCOTUS. They are essentially powerless to do anything meaningful. Sure, they could have a plebiscite or have the legislature pass some laws that could not be enforced, but then we would be adopting the meaningless tactics of the Left in doing so................

Fight is a possibility if taken to arms, but legislatively they are now powerless, thanks to the SCOTUS....................
