Your scenario is perfectly logical.

I have never been under fire so don’t know how I would really react in that situation. I do hope I would/could take advantage at the reloading point. I’d be scared to death...but I think I’d be pissed off enough to try to do something.

Same here - as with most others who have never been under fire. At some point, survival instinct would kick in.
