SOMEBODY has to do it.
Abbott is under Supreme Court order. Not sure why you’re taking your anger out on him.
He can, and apparently is preparing to, fight in court if today’s ruling collides with religious liberty but, from a civil standpoint, Abbott’s options evaporated today.
Barring secession, of course.
Only congressional action would override a SCOTUS ruling.
It seems the best way to handle this would be for the Texas legislature pass a law prohibiting and state funds or resources from being used to issue marriage licenses that do not comport with state law. (They tried this last session but it didn’t get a vote because our RINO Speaker).
I’m sure such a move would ultimately be a losing effort (legally) since SCOTUS will do whatever it damn well pleases. But a fight must be put up regardless.
Then outright defiance would be preferred in my view. There is no obligation to obey the illegitimate dictates of a facially legitimate authority. That was the position of the Founders anyway.
I would certainly prefer to obey God rather than man. To sanction such perversion (of the single institution created by God in perfection) is a direct slap in the face of our Creator. “I was just obeying orders” doesn’t fly. IMHO.
Sad day regardless FRiend. No matter what this will not end well.
Marriage paperwork is done at the county level, not the at the state level. State funds are not involved in issuing a marriage certificate.
It's astonishing to me how these brain dead zombies see an egregious act by liberals and Democrats, and then turn on Republicans. Obama could start drowning puppies and half the posts would be whining about the GOPe.
STFU... You have all the answers don’t you? Nullify this decision? Are you high? Gets so old listening to some here on FR talk about “rebellion” and “convention of states” and all this other BS when all you really do is sit in front of the computer talking tough. The SCOTUS ruled, for better or worse. He could no sooner ignore this than if Bush v. Gore or Roe v. Wade had been ignored or any other such ruling. We don’t have to like it but you certainly can’t pick and choose what laws you’re going to abide by especially since YOU wouldn’t be the one going to jail.
