John Mellencamp slammed the music business — with the exception of Taylor Swift — during a 25-minute rant Wednesday at a UJA-Federation of New York luncheon honoring Republic Records co-founders Monte and Avery Lipman.

Another source said, “He was saying that Swift’s the only one doing anything to save the business, and, ‘I applaud that young lady, she stands up for our rights. A bunch of us stand on the sidelines.’”
Swift just pressured Apple into changing its policy regarding royalties for its new streaming music service. Mellencamp even called out major artists, including, seemingly, Bruce Springsteen, by asking, “What’s that guy in New Jersey doing to help?,” an attendee said.

I can’t remember WHO told me that though.
Starland Vocal Band co-founder Bill Danoff is a talented musician and good song writer. He and his wife got their break as the back up singers called Fat City and were co-writers of Take me home country roads. Danoff worked for John Denver several years before forming Starland.
Not if you dig for it. There's never been more good music readily available. You just won't hear any of it on the radio.
I think Bruce Springsteen’s music sucks..

Anything that keeps Bruce Springsteen’s music off the airwaves and out of homes is alright by me. Let him serve as Chris Christie’s butler.
The “cougar” name has taken on a new meaning, so I assume that is why he dropped it.
FWIW, the story I heard was that his manager, or the record label, seemed to think “cougar” sounded better than “mellencamp” and since he was young and naive, he took their advice. As he became more successful, he eventually was able to drop the stage name.
Ever since he went to his maiden name, I lost all respect for him.
