Is Uncle Ben still on that box of rice?
Anyone want to go to Sambo’s in Santa Barbara?
If the service is like that of the old Sambo's at Vermont and Sixth in LA, then yes, I would. If you ordered coffee there, you wouldn't be able to finish your cup because a waitress would always be on hand to refill it.
I lived in Santa Barbara years ago.
My dad knew the founders of Sambo’s.
The Sambo name came from the first name of one of those founders, Sam Battistone, and the last two letters were the first two letters of the other founder’s last name....
Bonano. “Sam” + “Bo” = Sambo, or Sambo’s.
There was a big chain of these restaurants at one time, then there was some sort of dispute between the corporate offices and the managers of the restaurants and it all fell apart.
The “Sambo” kid on the sign had a turban, like a Sikh, and also had an Aladdin’s lamp.
LOL. I was just talking with my mom today about Sambo’s. Been gone from down here for many many years.
That’s the only Sambo’s left. The PC gestapo hounded the chain years ago.
Sambo was of course a reference to the 1899 Scottish children’s book about a South Indian boy from Politically Correct Governor Nikki Haley’s parental homeland.
In the children’s story a tiger that was pursuing Sambo turns into a pool of butter and is made into pancakes. Obviously racist.
