Amid the current efforts to remove the Confederate flag as a symbol from state and federal buildings and to divest from its commercial circulation as a product and commodity, it is also important to remember that a host of products lining grocery store shelves to this day, including Aunt Jemima Pancake Mix and Aunt Jemima Syrup, are also very much linked to Southern racism.
Families, including children, still encounter Aunt Jemima on trips to the grocery store where products are marketed under this trademark by the Quaker Oats Company in the 21st century. Numerous writings have examined the development of the Aunt Jemima logo in 1889 by Chris L. Rutt and Charles G. Underwood for their ready-made pancake flour mix at the Pearl Milling Company; the logos inspiration by Billy Kersands minstrel song Old Aunt Jemima; and the logos eventual purchase and establishment as a trademark by the Quaker Oats Company in 1925, where it remains one of the longest continually running logos and trademarks in the history of American advertising.

Uncle Ben has sucked up to whitey long enough!
ROFL ROFL Good One =)
Is this an actual old ad for Aunt Jemimah pancakes???
Lol! Uncle Ben says you a no account cracker .... And he seed you using a Dixie cup
Lol!
Little Black Sambo was Indian.
You know as a little girl I always look forward eating pancakes in the morning. When I see her image on the syrup or pancakes I always thought of her as a caring aunt at my breakfast table. I never saw anything racist of it.
If the service is like that of the old Sambo's at Vermont and Sixth in LA, then yes, I would. If you ordered coffee there, you wouldn't be able to finish your cup because a waitress would always be on hand to refill it.
The PC mob is absolutely out of control. Time for a little pushback.
Eeny, Meany, Miney Mo..........
Why? Could they switch back to the real Aunt Jemima, please, too?
And they better stay away from Uncle Ben. And put back that wild rice they took out. Speakin of racist.
a little?
That was a classic! It’s been banned for years, of course. But I remember that story when I was a little kid in the early 1950s.
He was, indeed. It was still banned.
It would be stupid to remove Uncle Ben since he was a real person and did invent that kind of rice. Something they seem to have missed during black history month.
Aunt Jemima?
Isn’t her face on the front of the EBT Card?
Or maybe I’m thinking of Uncle Ben?
