My comments on this thread have not been about Bristol Palin, or ‘illegitimacy’.
However, bastards have been with us always. Life happens.
It didn’t seem to become a political issue (unless heirs to thrones were involved) until we created a welfare state that essentially rewards people for having kids out of wedlock.
I don’t think Bristol Palin is going to take anything out of my paycheck. It’s a problem for her, and for her family.

If she wants to keep it between her family and herself, she shouldn’t announce her personal affairs on social media.
