When I see what our republic has become, perhaps it would have been better if the South would’ve won.
We should’ve picked our own, damned cotton.
Had the South won there’s no doubt slavery would have been done away with eventually. And the North would have come begging within a few years and the union would have reunited. They needed the agriculture the South provided. The only difference is the federal government’s eagle would have had it’s wings clipped and it wouldn’t have gained the power it has today.
