What?
What are you saying?
The first time Robert Lockwood heard me playing, He couldn’t see me. I was around a corner at Sam’s Music near Thistledown. I was fingerpicking deep Delta stuff on a 12 string acoustic, his favorite instrument/music. When I finished, this old Black guy with a goatee and wearing a beret. Robert, stuck his head around the corner, his eyes bugged out, and he exclaimed, “Why, you’re White!” As a Blues/Country guy, the best compliment ever! We jammed together a couple times. Just friendly stuff. Very nice man.
Ya know, as I think back about my music,,,, I should have quit the Country band, and played with Robert. But I was playing 6/7 nights a week, and doing studio calls playing pedal steel, and making decent moolah. He couldn’t offer anywhere near that.
