For the past 11 years, Chief Executive magazine has been polling hundreds of CEOs from across the nation and evaluating state budgetary and economic growth metrics to determine the best and worst states for business. And for the 11th straight year, California has come in dead last.
Texas repeated as the best state for business, aided by its lack of corporate or personal income taxes, and Florida, also without an individual income tax, once again finished runner-up. Rounding out the bottom five of the list were New York, Illinois, New Jersey and Massachusetts, which remained unchanged from last years survey.
California is the highest-taxed state in the nation, highest gas tax, 60-plus cents per gallon, which, combined with [California Air Resources Board] regulations, makes delivery within the state extremely costly, said one CEO. Added to this is the disdain for any and all manufacturing as Sacramento wants this to be a Green State. Add to that a pension debt that is largely ignored but very real.
High-tax and onerous regulatory policies have consequences, and businesses certainly take such surveys seriously when deciding whether to start, expand or relocate a business to California.

Why the hate?
I was quoting moving companies, therefore true economic moves. Into CA to/from the other 49 states. Illegals are not likely to hire Mayflower-North American, or even U-Haul.
You don’t live here, you don’t see illegals without licenses or insurance driving drunk the wrong way at a high speed; you don’t see children being raped yes children by illegals.
Let's not forget the broken down pick ups piled high with mattresses and not tied down.
Man, I used to dodge them on the 15 as they were driving in the direction of the border.
Only 7 more states to go!
Comments?
Obama opens the border and the rest of us get tuberculosis, enterovirus, and measles.
So very true.
You’re the second former Army chaplain I’ve run into recently that is conservative. Would’ve never guessed.
50th out of 57?
Could be worse.
It was something they put in the MREs when I was on active duty. :>)
True. I’d forgotten about that.
Good luck to you.
I mean what with all the genetic damage from the MRE’s.
(My war was about four back and so I have no idea the horrors that C-rats exposed us to.)
Next year..California will NOT be #50...Connecticut wants to be #1!! Malloy wants California to be #49 with Connecticut #50.
Like button needed...
They are still the #1 performing state in Mexico
Maybe
And they're like McDonalds. They're in every major city. Plus they smell bad. They stink.
I saw the Chief Executive article about a month ago. It’s not a scientific poll. It’s a survey with absolutely no information on who is surveyed.
Ironically, BloombergView had an article this spring entitled “Best State for Business? Yes, California” (http://www.bloombergview.com/articles/2015-03-12/best-state-for-business-yes-california). Among the data they present:
“Since January 2011, when Edmund G. “Jerry” Brown Jr., became governor for the third time, the 63 publicly traded California companies in the Standard & Poor’s 500 produced the best total return among the five states with the largest populations. California companies in the S&P 500 delivered returns of 134 percent; the closest big-state challenger was Florida, whose S&P companies had an 82 percent return, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. Texas-based companies delivered 52 percent during the period.”
And...
“If taxes are really the bane of California existence, why arent they preventing rich people from making the state their primary residence? Some 123 of the world’s wealthiest 400 people live in the U.S., and 28 of them, or 23 percent, are California residents, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. New York is No. 2 with 22 billionaires, or 18 percent, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.”
Actually, many in California with the “disease” came from other states and infested it and are not Californians at all.
Yes I will. Count on it.
