Gov. Nikki Haley’s stock rises amid flag furor
THE HILL ^ | 06/24/2015 | By Niall Stanage

South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley (R) is attracting widespread praise for leading the bipartisan effort to remove the Confederate battle flag from the grounds of the Statehouse.

Haley’s swift response has put her back in the national spotlight, stoking speculation that she could be the vice presidential nominee on the GOP’s 2016 presidential ticket. The 43-year-old governor saved her party from divisive bickering and damaging headlines that could have lingered for months.

While other prominent Republicans hemmed and hawed, Haley was clear at her press conference Monday that the flag must come down. Defenders of the flag, meanwhile, largely remained silent. The long-term political impact of Haley’s new stance — which is much different than her position last year — is unclear. But the short-term effect is obvious.

“It’s been her finest hour as governor,” said David Woodard, a Clemson University professor who also serves as a Republican consultant in the state. Woodard noted that he had worked for one of Haley’s rivals in the GOP primary when she was first elected in 2010 and has never been particularly enthused about her.

“I think she has handled it about as well as could be imagined,” said Will Folks, the South Carolina political blogger who sparked a firestorm in that same 2010 campaign when he claimed he had an affair with the married Haley. (Haley denied his story.)

Folks added that he thought she had “done a good job of being a uniter. And I say that as someone who has been critical of the governor on a wide range of issues. I don’t think she’s done a good job as governor.”

Republican consultant Ford O’Connell also extolled Haley’s performance and, asked about the broader political implications, suggested that “her VP stock is probably on the rise again at the moment.”

I know for a fact after talking to many down here that she is toast.

She was a disappointment from day one after she dissed Sarah.

I would like to see her recalled. That is the problem with immigrants and their offspring for Asia/Middle East/Africa. Many of them don’t possess appreciation for or identification for our history and the Constitution.

There’s talk of removing the monuments on Monument Avenue in Richmond. It is a long wide avenue with large statues of J.E.B. Stuart, R.E. Lee, T. Jackson and others.

She's going to find out just just how fast laying down with liberal dogs gets ticks stuck to her.

Her giving in will start another round of BS about changing the name of some schools around the State.

Agreed. A school in Jacksonville had it[s name changed ,not because the locals who were all black wanted , but because some dopey white liberal moved to the area and started a petition nation wide.
When about 20,000 people signed it around the country the school district folded.
My question is . why does it matter if some dope out in CA cares about the schools name 3,000 miles away?

I don’t think you can make a generalization like this. You will notice that a lot of those clamoring for the taking down of the Confederate flag are NATIVE BORN, WHITE Americans.

Are you referring to Jacksonville, Florida?

If so, then the name of the CITY’s NAME has to be changed if we’re all going to be into this historical grievance thing.

Andrew Jackson ( for whom the city was named ), bought his first slave, a young woman, in 1788.By 1794 his business included slave trading and he had purchased at least 16 slaves. In the 1820s Jackson owned about 160 slaves.

Unlike Thomas Jefferson, he did not free any slave in his will.

Who writes this crap? I was a big fan of her, not anymore. Caving in on this flag issue is juvenile. I thought she was better than that. Next they I’ll come after the state flag because of the palmetto and gorget. It was the first battle flag to fly over the south.

See how the Left does it? When a Republican submits to their dogma they lionize them. You know, just like how they loved the “Maverick” right up until he won the nomination.

Yup, that's when the Northern business class discovered their insulted manhood and casus belli.

Lincoln made the same pitch ..... "where shall I get my revenues?" If ever a question was asked for theatrical effect, that one was.

And she had all that Tea Party support, without which she'd be sitting back at home.

What bothers me most about all this is that it is a pattern, in which GOP leadership cannot Fail fast enough when Obama brings up an issue he wants to exploit. In the first place, most of his issues are totally illegitimate ("the issues are never the issue; the Revolution is The Issue"), and Republicans should/would never support them.

Too, the Pew Sociology Survey back in the 1990s (and updated since then) identified the Republican business class as the group most likely to roll over on an issue like gun control; business RiNO's are uncomfortable with "the hoi polloi" owning guns anyway (uneasy consciences, guys?), and so the Pew group identified them as approachable and possibly capable of a "grand compromise" (sellout) on RKBA.

I'm concerned that Obama may be working on a stealth coup with Boehner and Turkey Neck. A senatorial working group appears (today's news) to exist already, and Karl Rove has publicly rolled over on 2A and actually called for its repeal.

Fine, let them roll over...

It exposes a soft underbelly that is very weak and vulnerable...

Rove just earned his PhD in Putzism, and we knew he was heading that way for a long time...

Next time I see him on FauxNews, I know when he speaks, its a lie...
