CNN Goes There: Asks If Thomas Jefferson Memorials Should Be Removed Because He Owned Slaves?

As the Confederate Flag hysteria escalates, CNN's Ashleigh Banfield asks fellow CNN mouthpiece Don Lemon if it’s now appropriate for lawmakers to start a future conversation about whether or not the monument of Thomas Jefferson should be removed from the U.S. Capitol.

As DailySurge reports,
Thomas Jefferson–like a lot of people 270 years ago–owned slaves. He inherited them from his father. Jefferson gave away many of the estimated 170 slaves he owned after his death. While writing in the Declaration of Independence that “all men are created equal,” Jefferson didn’t believe blacks and whites were equals.
But Thomas Jefferson didn’t want to divorce from the union in order to preserve slavery. In fact, Jefferson wrote constantly and argued regularly about whether or not the founders should include the abolition of slavery in the Bill of Rights.
The bespectacled Banfield speaks...
* * *
Banfield is foolish to conflate the Confederate flag with a Thomas Jefferson memorial. And we fear the stupid won’t be receding anytime soon.
* * *
Just one more reminder, as we noted earlier, it seems few had any major "tear down these flags" problems with The Confederate Flag until some nutjob kills less people than die in Chicago every Friday night. Populist policy-setting and news media provocation by Lowest Common Denominator appears to be the nanny-state's new media normal.

Washington too! Let’s see them ask about that.
To: SeekAndFind
Yes, let’s tear down the Jefferson Memorial and replace it with the Sharpton Memorial roll-off dumpster. How completely sick.
To: Attention Surplus Disorder
Mt. Rushmore is next on their list.

http://www.quora.com/How-many-of-Americas-founding-fathers-were-slave-owners
Of the 55 delegates to the Constitutional Convention, 49% owned slaves.
The slave owners were:
Richard Bassett (DE)
Jacob Broom (DE)
John Dickinson (DE)
George Read (DE)
William Houstoun (GA)
William Few (GA)
William Samuel Johnson (CT)
Daniel Carroll (MD)
Luther Martin (MD)
John Francis Mercer (MD)
Daniel of St. Thomas Jenifer (MD)
William Livingston (NJ)
William Blount (NC)
William Richardson Davie (NC)
Alexander Martin (NC)
Richard Dobbs Spaight (NC)
Pierce Butler (SC)
Charles Cotesworth Pinckney (SC)
Charles Pinckney (SC)
John Rutledge (SC)
John Blair (VA)
James Madison (VA)
George Mason (VA)
Edmund Randolph (VA)
George Washington (VA)
George Wythe (VA)
Robert Morris (PA)
There are borderline cases among the above.
Robert Morris did not personally own slaves but did own a slave ship and invested in plantations using slaves. I’ve listed him as a slave owner since he was a direct participant in slavery and the slave trade.
Some slave owners emancipated their slaves (Richard Bassett and John Dickinson). Other slave owners opposed slavery and supported abolition (Jacob Broom and William Samuel Johnson). Other slave owners opposed the slave trade if not slavery itself.
Of the 26 slaveowners, 19 owned multiple slaves and relied on slave labor for their livelihood.

Look at the bright side. If this goes far enough, we will wipe out memorials to pretty much every pre-1960s Democrat politician, including Al Gore’s daddy.

I would ask, instead, should CNN be removed for their proven history of being fools, liberals and progressives who oppose all things American. Let the deportation process begin.

In a related report...an ISIS spokesweasel advised his organization is willing to demolish the Jefferson Memorial free of charge, as long as it is televised live.

Really, CNN needs to advise the public that they all have pictures of slave owners in their wallets...

Not much they can do to Mount Rushmore. Guarded by Feds who sometimes won’t even let you look at it from interstate.
Stone Mountain is their next target. The summit needs to be guarded against paint throwers & rappelling liberals.

I lived in China two decades after the start of their Cultural Revolution, but the effect was obvious.
America is going through a similar leftist, politically-inspired cultural revolution, where we tear down everything old, everything traditional, for the sake of leftist political goals. Ours is just more drawn out, and our red guards are not as active beating people up or smashing things.

Has anyone else noticed that the focus has faded from the horrific act which triggered all this, the mass shooting in the church??
Where is the endless talk of gun control and what about guns and all that, which we talked about after previous mass shootings? Instead, in this case, it triggered this huge debate about the Confederate flag. But lost in the blathering by politicians and talking heads on cable news shows, is the shooting and any remorse for the victims.
This is Saul Alinksy horse blank. Never let a crisis go to waste. The liberal left has jumped all over this case to use it to do away with the Confederate flag.

Yes, and I believe JFK and his liberal icon brother Bobby also routinely made rude remarks about gays. Where does the politically correct whitewashing end?
