No, indeed not. The King's cousin (& rival), dressed in "street clothes," to lead the March on the Bastille, had no idea how to turn off what he helped set in motion; nor did Lenin's chief ally, Trotsky, even in the moment before he had (a hatchet, I believe) buried in his head in Mexico.
Egalitarian revolutions are almost as dangerous for those who dream them up, as for those of us who seek to resist them. Already, it is not just the Southern traditionalist. Any American who would deny the notion that Sodom, Gomorrah or the isle of Lesbos (in the classic world), represented alternative "life-styles," is already under intense attack; as are those who understand that a Nation is not defined simply in terms of geographic place.
Time tables are being deliberately accelerated. Win or lose, howver this turns out, we are condemned to live in interesting times.
