Is this bolder than what Haley did or not as bold? Davis may not hold the same cultural currency as a symbol of southern pride that the flag does, but Haley had less to lose in making her move than Bevin does. Shes the term-limited governor of South Carolina; hes the GOP nominee for governor in Kentucky. If theres a broader southern backlash coming to all of the criticism of Confederate iconography this past week, hell pay for it more than she will.

You are playing my song. I am so ready to go. :-)
Maybe they should rename the lake in Minnesota Lake Algonquian J. Calhoun.
The last state with balls? The state of Texas refused to issue a personalized license plate with the Confederate flag on it. It was taken to the SC and the court ruled Texas had the right to refuse since the state owned the plates.
I thought I paid for the damned things.
They caved long ago. They aren't called that any more, they are called the "Commemorative Air force" now.
Bevin should visit the Jefferson Davis memorial at Davis’ birthplace. The man in charge of the memorial is a great admirer of Jefferson Davis and proud of his own ancestor who was a Confederate officer. He is also a black man.
that’s ok , send old Jeff down to Mississippi . That’s where he come from anyway . There is a welcome home for him at Beauvoir . He don’t need to be where he not wanted .
Troubled times usually create new leaders...you may be surprised what comes next.
But first we must let go of the Republicans, as a party they are counterproductive to new leaders.
And it won't end anytime soon. George Washington was a Southern slave owner, so we can't have our nation's capital named after him, now can we?
There are shops down the road from me in Appomattox that sell Confederate souvenirs. They have flags draped everywhere. I guess they’ll become obsolete soon.
OR, maybe central Virginians will maintain their grip on sanity and buy up their stock so fast they can’t keep it in.
Lincoln freed the slaves but he was a republican. Erase him from history!
I hope with all my heart that you’re right.
I wonder what all the bandwagon riders are going to do about this show, and reruns of this show, and the actors who started in it, and the movie that was made of that show, and the actors that starred in the movie...
Surely none of them can be allowed to walk among us any loner.
I was borne and reared as a southerner.... I’ve lived in the Deep South all my life. Having said that, I....
a) couldn’t care less about the battle flag of the Army of Northern Virginia.
b) ditto the “historic images” of Jefferson Davis, or
c) other cultural momentos of the Confederacy.
I just don’t care... one way or the other. I’m a proud Southerner, but don’t consider what makes the South a wonderful place to live to have anything to do with the Confederacy.
Others, on both sides of the issue can holler and beotch all they want, but I just don’t care.
June 27 is the 151st anniversary of the battle of Kennesaw Mountain,GA. Re-enactments of the battle may be a thing of the past after this latest round of anti-Confederate hysteria is over. A relative on my mother’s side,James Brandon of Co.H, Ist Tenn. Infantry, was killed in this battle.
Schneider is a hard leftist. He’ll be happy to paint the top of the car and get rid of that damned racist horn that plays “Dixie”.
In light of
- the Kelo ruling
- the anticipated gay ‘marriage’ ruling
- Obamacare
- apathy towards the Federal debt
- open border policy
If I lived in a southern state, I’d push for secession.
Do you think Obama, Clinton or any GOP candidate (except Texas Senator Cruz) would have the backbone to stop it?
I’d guess that over half of the US military comes from Southern states anyway.
Thanks for your input. I’m sure it will help many make a decision.
Good bye, Matt. You had such good promise, too. It was nice knowing you.
