As a general matter, I agree (as did Ronald Reagan) that free trade is good for America; when we open up foreign markets, it helps American farmers, ranchers, and manufacturers. But TPA in this Congress has become enmeshed in corrupt Washington backroom deal-making, along with serious concerns that it would open up the potential for sweeping changes in our laws that trade agreements typically do not include. Since the Senate first voted on TPA, there have been two material changes. First, WikiLeaks subsequently revealed new troubling information regarding the Trade in Services Agreement, or TiSA, one of the trade deals being negotiated by Obama. Despite the administrations public assurances that it was not negotiating on immigration, several chapters of the TiSA draft posted online explicitly contained potential changes in federal immigration law. TPA would cover TiSA, and therefore these changes would presumably be subject to be fast-track. When TPA last came up for a vote, both Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL)80% and I introduced amendments that would have barred fast-track treatment for any trade agreement that attempted to impact immigration law. Two other Republican senators objected, and we were both denied votes on our amendments. Instead, the House inserted substantially weaker language in related legislation.

Not with the additions, no. Apparently Boehner and McConnell have allowed Dem amendments, but not Conservative ones.
I am really glad to see Ted has woken up.
May God’s Love be with you as always!
I’m glad you came around and now see the light.
I agree that it was the perfect storm, but he should have recognized it. If he had some kind of personal belief in these supposed ‘free trade’ things actually being about free trade, then I can’t fault him, although I saw through them a while back. We were all sold that stuff. That was ‘doctrinaire republicanism’. We (by gosh) supported free trade.
But it turns out it wasn’t free, it wasn’t trade, and it wasn’t a benefit.
What worries me is that his naiveté on this could be telling me he’s not ready yet. I don’t think it will matter, though. If he stays in the race all the way to Ohio, then I’m voting for him. He has a lot of other stuff about him that I do support. I lived through OJT with Obama. I can now live through OJT with anyone.
The TPA Bill did change from the Senate to what just passed in the House.
It is sad to see that some here apply double standards to candidates. Many others supported TPA, but only Cruz is demanded to be as perfect as Jesus Christ on every issue.
Because of that, many have abandoned the best man in the race.
This morning we added Ghostery and I just added AdBlocker Plus and the pop-up addition.
Our computers are screaming now.
What the heck took me so long?
He was snookered by the RINOs. Happens.
And now he calls them out.
I just called both Rubio and Bill Nelsons office and left a message to vote no on this. I asked how Nelson plans to vote and the lady said “We are receiving an influx of calls in opposition to this. I don’t know how he plans to vote.” All I got at Rubios phone number is a recording so I left a vm.
Been a lifesaver for me. On my old dial-up line, the Internet would be unusable were it not for AdBlock Plus.
The best man (or woman) in the race would NOT
give Obama more power, like Cruz;
would NOT vote for bills unread that are SECRET, like Cruz.
Also, Cruz is involved in the appearance of impropriety
and conflict of interest because of his wife on this.
What? He says no such thing. TPA hasnt changed. There is no new TPA. His cash flow changed, so he threw his defenders under the bus.
Looks like the n00b is trying their darndest to have his/her own set of facts! GI and xzins are right...follow the $$...and poll numbers...and you’ll have the reason for Ted’s epiphany, TNmouth.
BTW....I canvassed door to door during Ted’s run for the Senate, and have supported my Sen Cruz all the way...with shoe leather and $$ (long time FReepers know this)....up until his whole-hearted support of this trade debacle. (I’m not at all happy with his H1 visa support, but his trade bill love was too much.)
(Since I know you’ll ask....) Who do I support now? Not sure...I’m feeling somewhat betrayed. I didn’t leave my candidate...my candidate left me :(
And I stand corrected.
It’s simple. Jeff Session and Ted Cruz see the issue from different angles. I think you don’t know Ted Cruz enough to trust him.
Remember that TPA is a Fast Track for HONEST presidents to have TRADE AGREEMENTS, not treaties.
The enemy within!
McConnell & Boehner strong-arming on behalf of Obama.
Apologies are being accepted.

You should see what the ORIGINAL version of HR3590 looked like before the scumbags in Congress completely stripped it of all original intent (because spending bills have to originate in the House) and turned it into Obamacare.
See, that's the thing. I thought Cruz was different. Hence my support. That is why I have been so disappointed by his position.
By the way, you don't do it, but the name calling on this thread by Cruz people is really making me rethink my support of Cruz. I don't mean I wouldn't vote for him, but if this type of talk continues on public forums, I sure wouldn't go out of my way in public talking up Cruz because I wouldn't want to get lumped in with this group of people.
