Republican strategist Karl Rove said on “Fox News Sunday” the only way to stop gun-related violence, like the Wednesday massacre at Emmanuel African Methodist Church in Charleston S.C., was to repeal American citizens’ Second Amendment rights. When Chris Wallace asked Rove how we can, “stop the violence,” the long-time gun-rights advocate stated that we have made great strides as a nation in empathizing with the victims of these types of shootings, but the only way to guarantee they will stop is to “remove guns from society.”
WALLACE: How do we stop the violence?
ROVE: I wish I had an easy answer for that, but I don’t think there’s an easy answer
We saw an act of evil. Racist, bigoted evil, and to me the amazing thing is that it was met with grief and love. Think about how far we’ve come since 1963. The whole weight of the government throughout the South was to impede finding and holding and bringing to justice the men who perpetrated the [Birmingham] bombing.
And here, we saw an entire state, an entire community, an entire nation come together, grieving as one and united in the belief that this was an evil act, so we’ve come a long way.
Now maybe there’s some magic law that will keep us from having more of these. I mean basically the only way to guarantee that we will dramatically reduce acts of violence involving guns is to basically remove guns from society, and until somebody gets enough “oomph” to repeal the Second Amendment, that’s not going to happen.

In Rove’s defense, what he said is factually correct.

Does anybody really disagree? Gun violence is, sadly, largely the price we pay for gun rights. Does somebody have other ideas on how to dramatically reduce gun violence?

Again, what is inaccurate about this? 2A does prevent removal of guns from society, as it should.
That I can recognize the only way to dramatically reduce gun violence would be to make guns unavailable does not necessarily mean I’m willing to pay the price to achieve that.
That being said, it probably could have been articulated better.

Unless the GOP leaders publicly castigate Karl Rove the GOP should be considered as having joined him is the pursuit of committing treason.

Found it.... the left-wingers are distorting what he said to make it sound like he sides with them on gun-control. They cut off the next sentences he said where he DIDN’T think repealing the second amendent was the answer, community speaking up when they recognize someone is mentally ill and a threat is the answer.

I don’t think that’s an answer. I think there were so many warning signs here. A friend who knew what was in Roof’s heart, parents who didn’t pay attention, a community that had given up on him, and a loner who had fallen into the clutches of racist organizations and had come to believe the ideology and put things up on the internet that we didn’t give any credence to whatsoever. And so there were a lot of warning signs here and I wish some of those people had spoken up and said here is somebody who is in trouble and a danger.”

He said, as you have quoted, “the only way...”. You will not nearly be the only one to quote him. Frankly, I can think of plenty of ways just none progressives will allow to be heard. Stick a fork in Rove.

Yes, I disagree. more guns in the hands of people able to defend themselves will ensure violence DECREASES as perps will not attack armed citizens.
When they remove the guns from the hands of law abiding citizens; then the only hands they’ll be left in are in the hands of criminals.
The country clubbers are not conservative. They stoped becoming conservative when we lowered their taxes and now they don’t need the rest of us.
Good Grief, you Rove haters. Rove was not advocating this, he was simply discussing the absurdity of passing a law that would prevent a drugged out liberal from shooting up a church.

Gun (and other) violence has decreased considerably over the last 20 years or so.
I’m all in favor of armed self-defense, but do you seriously contend that criminals will stop killing each other if more decent people are armed?
Exactly. See my post #30 where I found the video of his full remarks. He said specifically he didn’t think the repealing the second amendent was the answer. The liberals are only partially quoting him to make it sound like he sides with them and the anti-Rovers here are in full liberal-assist mode.
So the next GOP president along with the Pope will seek to disarm our citizens.
