Secretary of the Treasury Jack Lew is set to announce on Thursday that the Bureau of Engraving and Printing will remove Alexander Hamilton from the ten dollar bill, in favor of a woman.
The change could happen as soon as 2020.
The announcement came via Nancy Lindborg, president of the US Institute of Peace, who tweeted out the news....
...The choice to replace Hamilton on the $10 bill as opposed to President Jackson on the $20 bill is a curious one.
There were clear reasons to replace Jackson on the bill. Jackson has long been reputed as a deeply flawed character, who owned hundreds of slaves, executed American soldiers for desertion, and, most heinously, oversaw the relocation of native American tribes from lands promised in previous treaties.
The "Trail of Tears," as it has become known, resulted in the deaths of more than 4,000 Cherokee alone. Choctaw, Chickasaw, Muscogee, Seminole, and other tribes were also forcibly removed.
The reasoning behind the removal of Hamilton is less clear.
As a founding father of the United States and the first Secretary of the Treasury, Alexander Hamilton is hardly the controversial figure that Jackson was. In addition, Hamilton is the architect of the early American financial system, having established a national bank, a system of tariffs, friendly trade relations with Britain, and assumed states' debts to solidify the nascent union.
The debate over who should replace Hamilton is far from settled. Lindborg invited people to sound off on Twitter with the hashtag #TheNewTen.

How about they just put a wig on Hamilton and call it even?
Great idea! Let’s start a rumor that Hamilton was actually transgendered. Or at the very least that he said he always felt more like a woman than he did a man.
How about Aunt Esther? :-)
This is a trial balloon for other changes. Why pay tribute to only one protected class.
“it’s more likely Lizzie Borden”
Better than Hillary. Lizzie had much more character and personal values.
Lizzie also harmed many less people than Hillary has.
I think that’s good to remember as well.
LOL!
BI is a lefty click-bait rag.
ROTFLOL!!!
Glozell!
Our Federal Governmment.
If it isn’t broken they’ll fix it until it is.
Why Hamilton and not Jackson? Neither. Why the $10 bill and not the $20? Because the mint rightly figured that the most recognizable portraits on the $100, $20 and $5 US notes are far more important than some political stunt. The $10 note is not as recognizable and not used as much outside the United States compared to the other denominations.
So there, really simple answer to a liberal who wants to make it so far more complicated.
I don’t so much mind them changing the face of the bill as long as they don’t put some ass on it.
They're the new quarters.
The 2007 dollar was worth 1/10th of a 1950 dollar. What's the inflation cumulatively since 2007? Treasury (lying) says it's about zero.
LOL! Oh, haill no! This is politics, boy!
(I especially liked the Obama moue, "I had this letter from a little girl, much to my surprise ...." Yeah, bullhockey, Baas Obama.)
“So, why remove Hamilton? The article isnt clear.”
The only reason I can think of is to put a woman on a bill. When the dust settles I think it is a nearly perfect certainty it will be a black woman simply because of the PC movement. Not that there are not black women who are deserving but I don’t think anyone who is NOT a black woman will be considered. Lowbridge already suggested Harriet Tubman because she was at least a Republican. I would not be surprised to see “Sojourner Truth” selected. Hell’s bells, as crazy as this country is now it may be Oprah. I hereby nominate Lena Horne. At least she would look good on a bill. It would be cheating though, she was not really black, she was apparently a mixture of white, American Indian and black. By some reports she was a descendant of the fiery slavery advocate from South Carolina, two time vice president John C. Calhoun.

I’m fine with that as well. She too was a Republican. :-)
