Donald Trump, in his own words
Trump on Health Care We must have universal healthcare, Trump wrote in his book, Im a conservative on most issues but a liberal on this one. In an interview earlier this year he continued to applaud single payer health care systems used in other countries.
Trump on Taxes I would impose a one-time, 14.25% tax on individuals and trusts with a net worth over $10 million, Trump said. For individuals, net worth would be calculated minus the value of their principal residence. That would raise $5.7 trillion in new revenue, which we would use to pay off the entire national debt.
Trump on Trade Trump has called for a 20% tax for importing goods, and a Twenty-five percent tax on China, unless they behave.
Trump on Eminent Domain When asked about the 2005 case Kelo v. City of New London, that allowed economic development to be a legitimate reason for government to exercise eminent domain, Trump told Fox News (7/19/05), I happen to agree with it 100 percent. Trump was unsuccessful in his own attempt to have officials in New Jersey use eminent domain to condemn a home on property he wanted to buy for part of his hotel and casino.

20,000 lobbyist and back door influence peddlers agree.
Would you like a system of taxation where tariffs and sales(fair) taxes replaced all income taxes?
See post 175
Well duh!! Of course he gives $$ to their campaigns look where he operates! Do I need to spell it out to those that don’t get that big corporations give to both sides during elections? That is smart business! Especially where he operates his business. SMH
In business can someone point to something he said that he didn’t mean and it didn’t happen as he said he it would? You bluff sometimes and execute most of the time.anything less and you don’t make it long in big boy business.
Simpletons are once again getting PUNKED again and this time its Donald Trump doing the punking.
Tariffs are tricky because they create price distortions in the market. Prices should ideally reflect only people’s production and consumption preferences. Anything exogenous to that supply/demand dynamic will distort prices, and mess with the coordinating function of a free market.
Also, tariffs tend to generate retaliatory tariffs. And the last time we had a full-blown tariff war, we got a depression, FDR, and the New Deal, which we have been paying for ever since....
As for a taxation system, the income tax has to go. And forget about a VAT! I’m open to either a fair tax or a consumption tax, but I honestly haven’t studied either one enough to make an informed decision yet.
You’re no brainchild, we get it. We certainly didn’t have to have you explain it to us. The money was just a footnote to Trump’s other liberal leanings, 10 on that list, more mentioned in other threads. The man is a joker with absolutely nothing presidential about him. Fortunately, he stands zero chance of getting the nomination so this discussion is moot.
Right on. Economics is really little more than applied common sense, which is why I’m often surprised at some of the economic analysis that passes on FR.
Anyone who simply set aside a couple of days to read a text as basic as Henry Hazlitt’s classic “Economics In One Lesson” would be sufficiently steeled (pun!) against these most common economic fallacies. And that excellent Hazlitt book will leave people wanting to go on to von Mises, Hayek, Buchanan, Kirzner, Garrison....
Club for Growth is not all bad but they love all these bllsht trade deals and probably have no problem with 300,000 H1-B visas each year. The veer towards undisciplined open borders same as the Chamber of Commerce pukes. Trump is the opposite of much that the libertarian Club for Growth stands for
Many on the right are as lazy in critical thinking skills as those on the left.
It’s too easy to just let the “experts” tell you what to think.By the time the experts have been proved wrong, we are on to other issues of the day, which the experts assuredly have the answers for.
People want to go with consensus, wether they be on the left or right.
I can assure you that my banker, accountants, and some of my legal view me as a turnip rolling on the side of a dusty road.I don’t do consensus,I think.
Manufacturing,119yrs, one family,5 generations.
People will forgive for being wrong, never for being right. I am a turnip, and proud.
Good authors by the way.
You are totally disingenuous on all fronts. Of course you will make no mention of any republican candidate he’s donated to. That just wouldn’t support the narrative you’re attempting to create. Regardless of whether or not he has any chance 3 things are certain
1) he isn’t bought and paid for by special interests
2) he could give a hoot about who he torches along the way PC be damned
3) he isn’t the uniparty, establishment, or a politician on the hill
I know that send some into fits of dervish frenzy but for some it’s damned refreshing!
I do agree and to add to this point the so called experts want the uniparty to continue oh the hill. Repukes and Demonrats are playing us all as fools as they enrich themselves and their friends all the while keeping us fighting.
Hey look over there shiny object! ;-)
Well I do hope it stays that way. I expect that to change if/when he burns up on debate re-entry. If he doesn’t switch to 3rd party independent just in time to help Hillary, I’ll be very surprised.
Yes,of course. And what is truly infuriating to me,is,we have the absolute numbers to tell these people to go F themselves. And than hang them from street lamps.Middle class is being evicerated, the nwo, statist ,and socialist/commies have no use for the middle class.
Your opinion of me matters not, really, Actually, that's not entirely true. If I can manage to upset a supporter of a liberal like Donald Trump I confess I do take a small delight.
Of course you will make no mention of any republican candidate hes donated to.
Actually, that is entirely untrue. Of the many threads I have participated in today I posted the following wherein I said: "Out of his 31 donations 21 of them went to very liberal Democrats or Democratic Committees, 7 went to Republicans, 2 went to Independents (both of those to Charlie Crist)."
1) he isnt bought and paid for by special interests
No, he plans to buy the office ala Michael Bloomberg only unlike Bloomberg, Trump's too much the clown so he will lose. That's not an endorsement of Bloomberg, it's just a fact about Trump.
2) he could give a hoot about who he torches along the way PC be damned
I can agree with you there. He doesn't give a damn about his buffoonish nature; Republican Party be damned! Knowing he can't win, he's in it for his own selfish reasons and that is that.
3) he isnt the uniparty, establishment, or a politician on the hill
All the more reason he will lose. Who is going to work with him on his campaign? Who does he have now? He didn't even have the foresight to hire a speechwriter for his campaign announcement. Can you at least admit that was a mistake?
I know that send some into fits of dervish frenzy but for some its damned refreshing!
I don't find it refreshing at all. I find it unnerving. The Republican field is already seen as a joke by many. Try attending a PAC meeting in your town and see how unwilling people are to give their hard-earned cash to the party. They're scared shitless that Hillary will win, but they're scared also that the Republican Party doesn't have its shit together enough to defeat her. And they couldn't be more right on that point. The party is a laughing stock in its current state. And as much as many here, yourself included, may be oblivious to the fact, Donald Trump's announcement just made things worse.
Cheers.
After he’s crushed in the primaries, his ego will require him to go 3rd party. And the Norm Lenharts of the world (and this site unfortunately) will in self-righteous conscience try to elect Hillary just like they did Obama and Bill Clinton all those years ago. The Clintons never forget and they’ll have plenty of help from the Lenhart wing of this site.
“trump is against communist core, wants to build a fence, have mfg return to USA, is for strong military, jobs and infrastructure, no to chamber of commies trade deal etc etc”
He just doesn’t explain HOW he will do this. Narcissistic clown.
“I say let him in...Trump brings some fire to the otherwise dull campaign.”
Yes he can enter in a Mini Cooper stuffed with 15 other clowns.
