He switched languages 27 minutes into his announcement speech. "Ayúdennos en tener una campaña que les da la bienvenida--Help us to have a campaign that welcomes you," Jeb Bush said to a crowd of supporters Monday. "Work with us for the values we share and for a great future that is ours to build for our children."
For a man who started learning Spanish as a teenager, married a Mexican woman, lived three years in Venezuela and was the governor of Florida for eight years, switching languages wasn't that difficult ... it was expected by the roughly 3,000 supporters, many of them Hispanics, who gathered at the Miami-Dade College's Kendall campus to hear him say he's running for president.
The 62-year-old Republican has been married for more than four decades to Columba, who was born and raised in Mexico. It all started when, as a teenager, he spent several months in her country of birth. At the age of 17, Jeb Bush taught English in a small village outside the Mexican city of Leon (Guanajuato state), Mexico as part of a student exchange program.
It was during the same trip that he met Columba Garnica de Gallo, the woman who would become his wife. They speak Spanish to one another and she speaks Spanish to their children at home.

Jeb Bush in imagining himself Hispanic, is not different from Rachel Dolezal, who imagines herself black, or Bruce Jenner, who imagines himself a woman. Except for maybe not the genitalia surgery part.
He “identifies with Latinos”.....
Mexicans understand borders when it comes to their own country, as do people from just about everywhere. I remember listening to a call-in show once where people were calling in angry, bitter, that non-Mexicans were being recruited to play on Mexican soccer teams... mostly players from other latin countries.
I remember Venezuelans being pretty uptight about Colombians working illegally there (back before Venezuelans had to leave their own country in droves). I even remember being told that the Venezuelan army would execute Brazilian miners on the spot that they caught crossing into Venezuelan territory.
A guy like Jeb would be well positioned to explain our constitutional system to new citizens and well able to do it. If only he understood it himself.
He is a disappointment and has been for many years.
His strongest suit is not the Hispanic connection. It is his record as Governor of Florida. He cited some impressive accomplishments.

Bush has Latino roots??? If he were any more upper class, toffee-nosed white, he would be carrying a lacrosse stick.
I could never vote for Jeb Bush. H
This is supposed to be a constitutional republic for pity’s sake. Four Bush-for-president votes in one lifetime is enough!
No.
That will appeal only to the uneducated, illegal parasites streaming into our country, invited by our illegal manchurian president without a birth certificate or an educational record.
Certainly not this educated, aware and legal U.S. citizen with latino roots!
No! is the same word in both Spanish and English.
I think Fno is different in Spanish though.
I will not vote for anyone who speaks Spanish to get votes.
I don’t remember the Italians,Greeks Chinese,or other groups getting special treatment.
.
He checked the Hispanic box, just like Rachel Dolezal checked the Black box, and it’s going to be a problem that he identifies as Mexican rather than American.
He married in to his “roots.”
