He switched languages 27 minutes into his announcement speech. "Ayúdennos en tener una campaña que les da la bienvenida--Help us to have a campaign that welcomes you," Jeb Bush said to a crowd of supporters Monday. "Work with us for the values we share and for a great future that is ours to build for our children."
For a man who started learning Spanish as a teenager, married a Mexican woman, lived three years in Venezuela and was the governor of Florida for eight years, switching languages wasn't that difficult ... it was expected by the roughly 3,000 supporters, many of them Hispanics, who gathered at the Miami-Dade College's Kendall campus to hear him say he's running for president.
The 62-year-old Republican has been married for more than four decades to Columba, who was born and raised in Mexico. It all started when, as a teenager, he spent several months in her country of birth. At the age of 17, Jeb Bush taught English in a small village outside the Mexican city of Leon (Guanajuato state), Mexico as part of a student exchange program.
It was during the same trip that he met Columba Garnica de Gallo, the woman who would become his wife. They speak Spanish to one another and she speaks Spanish to their children at home.

Even if Romney had received the ENTIRE Latino vote he would have lost.
No!
Puts the under in underwhelming.
How is this different than Rachel Dolezal?
At the sound of ‘press one for Spanish’ I hang up.
Designated Loser
The RNC must produce an amnesty candidate for their donors.
We will not be allowed to elect anyone who will uphold the rule of law.
Ditto!
Jeb’s son spoke in spanish made me sick. How did this work out in Canada?
No its not going to work for Bush, they are going to be a permanent minority if the GOP listens to Bush
Trump said it today, Mexico is not sending their best people, we get their problems, people that are not working in all those plants the US Corporations moved to Mexico.
We get the unskilled, they are bankrupting our hospital, collecting government welfare.
We are getting their drugs and drug dealers, their criminals.
I agree and Trump said they are ripping us off.
Harvey Milktoast , Walter Mitty , “a kinder - gentler America” “ glittering points of light “ yawn.....
Will white voters abandon Bush because of his Latino roots and amnesty positions?
YES THEY WILL.
Cannot and will not vote for him. I don’t hate him, but his views will be a disaster for us.
Even if Romney had received the ENTIRE Latino vote he would have lost.
Excellent point. The legitimate latino vote is still relatively small. The Republican Party is looking to the future they are making by willfully refusing to stop the invasion.
We could still retain the rule of law and not surrender our country to fraudulently documented foreigners, but the GOP is doing everything they can to prevent that. (some individual members are on the side of the citizens)
America needs to be led by a warrior , not a politician
Even of that leader is not ‘ elected ‘
I like Trump’s idea of quickly identifying a new Patton or McArthur .
I can name a few : James Conway - Michael Flynn - James Mattis - Jerry Boykin - Allen West - Larry Bailey
Bush has as much Spanish “roots” as a shovel handle. Just because he is married to someone who has Spanish ancestory does not make him a Spanish. I speak French (poorly I might add), but it does not make me French although I have French Canadian roots.
I heard some audio this morning on Beck’s show, a woman with a spanish accent saying, “ I like him, even though he’s an American......
I guess I got used to the idea of America having Americans as President.
It is not immigration when they don’t apply or comply.
We are giving up our country.
We will lose our culture if we accept Spanish (or Farsi or German or French or Swahili)as acceptable as just another way to communicate in the public arena.
Despicable anti-American.
I second that.
