Drought-stricken California is not the only place draining underground aquifers in the hunt for fresh water.
Its happening across the world, according to two new studies by U.S. researchers released Tuesday.
Twenty-one of the worlds 37 largest aquifers in locations from India and China to the United States and France -- have passed their sustainability tipping points, meaning more water is being removed than replaced from these vital underground reservoirs. Thirteen of 37 aquifers fell at rates that put them into the most troubled category.
The situation is quite critical, said Jay Famiglietti, senior water scientist at NASAs Jet Propulsion Laboratory and the University of California Irvine-led studies principal investigator.

It’s more leftist anti-scientific BS, but it implies or perhaps is only meant to imply some movement toward the light. Bjorn Lomborg in “The Skeptical Environmentalist” noted that the most pressing need in the poorest parts of the world was clean drinking water. By contrast late Paul Simon (the senator, not the English leftist and alleged singer) used to emphasize this “industrialized countries are running out of water” meme.

“Why couldn’t coastal areas use salt water for toilets....”
Several problems with this...
First the infrastructure...it would require 2 sets of water mains for delivery...cost prohibitive!
Second the waste water...there would soon be a high salt content at the waste water treatment facility and would stop the recycling of water. Or it would poison fresh water streams and bodies of water with salt.
And just a comment on toilets...the toilets required today have small tanks that deliver less water for flushing stuff...and many times it is necessary to flush a 2nd time to get rid of the waste. This results in a higher water usage with this small tank toilets.
I like the Thorium + Desalinization idea better than my own, but I was just throwing up ideas here to see what stick on the wall...
This might be the scam that replaces ‘global warming’...
