Former Texas Gov. Rick Perrys officially kicked off his second bid for the White House two weeks ago at an airplane hangar in Addison. On Monday, as fellow Republican Jeb Bush joined the dozen-plus candidates in the field, Perry appeared on The Mark Davis Show on KSKY-AM (660) to talk about the campaign and the ever-growing chorus of contenders.
Here are some excerpts from that interview, as conducted and condensed by Mark Davis:
So whats been happening since the Addison rollout?
It was an extremely well-put-together rollout. Its always fun to stand in front of an old C-130 Hercules, so we were able to round one up, and remind people that freedoms not free. On the stage were a lot of people who paid an extraordinary price Taya Kyle, and Marcus and Morgan Luttrell and others ... just a great backdrop to talk about this country we live in. Its wonderful, its extraordinary, but it costs a great deal to keep those freedoms. We went from there to Iowa, on Saturday we did a motorcycle rally ... ended up in New Hampshire, then into South Carolina, then back into Texas for Wednesday and Thursday of this last week. So, headed off to do a big round in Texas the next four or five days. A lot of great crowds, a lot of excitement out there. Im blessed, happy, healthy and prepared.
Every Republican will be out there suggesting he will be a better leader for the military. You focus a lot on your actual service.
Obviously, the people who are in office now or who are running for office on the other side, you have to look at this as a third term for Barack Obama. With Hillary Clinton, theres no way around that. She owns the foreign policy debacle that came

Turning the Party over to the so-called moderates wouldnt make any sense at all." -- President Ronald Reagan |

The premise of a time travel novel was that if you tried really really hard you could hypnotize yourself back into the past simply by intense concentration. That may be what Hillary, Huckabee, and the two Ricks are up to.

In Texas, Cruz would be about 25% ahead of Perry in a head-to-head contest; maybe more.
To: SoConPubbie
I’m just plain not interested in any past candidates.

There’s three reasons Rick Perry isn’t on my top three
1. La Raza Rick was an earned nickname
2. He’s not that smart.
3. Uh, mmm, uh, mmmm

We could do a lot worse than Rick Perry, he’s a pragmatist, that’s what we need, not a blind to reality zealot.

He’s still polling at #10 so that’s a spot on the debate stage.
Another chance to recite a list of three things.

Which is just code-words for "Moderate."
Spare me the appeal to accept a 3rd best candidate because he's not the Democrat speal.
Not acceptable. We quit that game with Romney.

Nonsense, I like Perry because he would be the most fun to watch NOT getting pushed around by the likes of Putin.

I can’t see Rick doing much outside of Haskell County. He must expect to “catch on” at some point in the campaign.

I feel sorry for Rick. He is so insecure about his second shot at the presidency that he is attaching himself to military heroes.
He is showing a lack of presidential temperament as he flings insults at Senator Cruz.
It should be asked if Perry is worth a second shot after being an abysmal failure the first time. Intelligence conservatives should say “Hell no”
