When news broke last night that the president of Spokane's NAACP chapter Rachel Dolezal is actually a white woman who's been pretending for years to be black, Twitter erupted into a cacophony of outrage, disbelief, and — best of all — jokes. While we prepare for the impending storm of hot takes — and, as activist Deray McKesson put it, some actually interesting essays exploring "performative blackness, appropriation as reality, and the white gaze" — let's take a moment to enjoy the humor in this before it's considered too mean. For instance, Dolezal's Twitter handle is literally @HarlmRenaissanc. You can't make this stuff up.
