Ted Cruz wants to increase H-1B visas from 65,000 to 325,000 annually

WASHINGTON, DC: When it comes to increasing skilled workers on H-1B visas, one could say presidential candidate Ted Cruz is a bit of a black sheep amongst the GOP.The Republican presidential candidate wants to increase the H-1B visas by 500 percent from its 65,000 to 325,000.

Cruz, who announced his run for the Oval office this morning, had made the proposition in 2013 as an amendment to the Senate’s comprehensive immigration bill. While the Senate’s Judiciary Committee torpedoed Cruz’s amendment, they did approve an increase of 180,000 in the H-1B cap, but the House never acted on the legislation. It’s not clear if Cruz had only the base 65,000 H-1B visas for skilled workers from around the globe to emigrate to the US in mind, and he didn’t want to include the 20,000 other H-1B visas which are allocated especially for students who graduate from universities in the US.

If the story is correct and Cruz wants to increase HB workers to 325,000 a year, most of whom will probably come from India, then he lost my vote right there.

So the solution is to mute the market signal that will cure the shortage, right ?

You keep pumping the same crisis trash that was the excuse for BarryCare rather than deregulating portions of Health Care and allowing the market to work. Either someone honestly believes in the market or they don't and if they do they don't yell, "the sky is falling" and demand that market signals be muted or short circuited.

As I've said before, people who will be near graduating when the next President is sworn in are right now deciding on a major. How how does driving wages for the skills we're supposedly so short of encourage them to go into those fields rather a job as, oh, say a Marketing & Campaigning Shill for example ?

Again, I will repeat this is not about ABUSES, this is about preserving and expanding those born with gifts of an enormously high innovation and perspective.

I can see you have never been in the big leagues of science and engineering.

There are (look it up at the BLS website) more than 1.5 million university faculty in America and that does not include TAs and there are several hundred thousand top scientists and engineers in both government and private (like Skunkworks) laboratories.

From these millions there is as much as 25% that are foreign born and were recruited not to replace anyone but to corner the market on brains.

And the H1Bs of this top talent have to be renewed by law so many under Ted’s proposed cap limit are in need of renewal.

I listed some of the historical names in the big leagues of science and engineering. But today there are many many many more that are just as gifted. American born talent is also top notch and the talent that is recruited from outside America are allowed to take their positions along side top American researchers. And top American talent love this because it’s not about politics or ideology, it’s about advancing the state of the art and pushing the envelope. And every gifted recruit America gets is one less for the country they came from, for example Russia.

The It workers on this thread who are whining are not capable of performing at the level of the big league talent that is both American born and foreign born. Under Obama’s DHS, H1Bs have been issued to people that do not qualify for the big leagues; these are ABUSES.

Ted Cruz has stated H1Bs will be issued based on DEMONSTRABLE NEED and his definition of the notion of demonstrable need is entirely different than Barack Obama’s. Ted is going to fill empty slots in laboratories and positions in universities and research facilities with the best talent that can be found and this talent is of a far different quality that some Disney IT worker.

The H1B program is not going to be ended period. It is too vital to the national security scientific exchange infrastructure. It is a critical component to what keeps America tops in science and technology in the world.

No amount of bellyaching and whining from the posters on this thread, many of them laid off IT people are going to cause the H1B program to be aborted. They can complain to Ted Cruz of the abuses and his answer will be that he will not support continued abuses of the H1B program and in fact he will try and capture even more top talent because in doing so the country or region where the H1B recruit originates is denied talent that can be used against Anerica and America is made stronger.

Are you stupid? All if the other preconditions to let foreigners in do not have to be met in order for the President to enact the portions of law that further his politics. We need to pass a black &a whit law that says the border must be secured or the President and Commander n Chief must stand trial for impeachment.

Nobody is watching this program. Do a google search on H-1b fraud prosecutions, you will get a few things to come up, but no real enforcement at all. Wrist slapping. It is an abused system that needs to die and die now. it can be done if we get patriots instead of of gloBULL shills in office.

Right. Which is why your posting history is an endless paean to Rand Paul, with comments about “St. Cruz” and not a mention of Carson.

Keep talking.

What was the official “prevailing wage” for your occupation? Did you make more than American citizens were making? Did you displace an American worker?

That's a nice thought. But why increase a corrupt program 5 fold?

Three if you count his support for the Freedom Act, which is just a tweaked version of the Patriot Act.
