Always found it odd how integrated the Texas suburbs are. In the NYC metro area, middle class whites are a bit less amenable towards Hispanics and blacks moving into their communities. Not so much outright hostility so much as parochialism and the "cold shoulder."

Something like McKinney would never happen in a suburban community in NY or NJ, because the folks in question would never consider moving to a community where they know they will get the shoulder. Whether it's a good or bad thing depends on one perspective...

Basically in the Texas suburbs we ignore each other. I’m on a cul-de-sac and there is one neighbor I consider knowing well. A few others I know their names and we wave at each other.

The neighbors I know well are just as concerned as I am about what’s going to be built behind us.

As for NY or NJ, the blacks these days won’t care. They’ll come in and take over the neighborhood if the rent is free.

But again, it’s not the old neighborhoods Hillary and Obama are talking about. It’s the suburbs in places like Texas that are red. I guess you could say what used to be upper middle class.
