When I met Rachel Dolezal, I found it easy to accept her description of her ethnicity. Along with BBC correspondent Jonny Dymond, I talked to Dolezal in 2011 in a coffee shop in Spokane, Washington, while producing a BBC World Service documentary on a surge in extremist militia activity in America. She told us that she was of mixed racial heritage but that she primarily identified with her black ancestors. She matter-of-factly listed the abuse she says she received at the hands of racists, including threats, break-ins, and nooses being left at her workplace.
At no time during our hour-long interview, or during a number of phone and email conversations before and after, did Dolezal give any cause to doubt her heritage. But today Dolezal, a well-known local civil rights leader, university lecturer and head of the local chapter of civil rights group NAACP, is being talked about across social media networks, because her family have said she was lying about her background.

BBC Trending has tried to contact Dolezal, but she hasn't yet responded

If Jenner can choose his sex, she can choose her ethnicity
She ripened up nice.
I wonder if she can do the Black girl head wobble?
She must go to John Boehner’s tanning salon.
To #15 re Howard University. Most of the following is true; a little is made up for laughs.
My cousin was a short, chubby, white, Jewish female and got an all paid scholarship to the traditionally all-black Morgan State Un in Baltimore because she was white, a female, and Jewish. (I added in the “chubby” part because she was to some extent. Today that is a condition the gives you other “privileges”).
Thus she not only got an all paid scholar but all the hair-straightener she could use, free Fried Chicken, could take off for ML King’s Birthday, and hid Snicker Bars in her Afro.
[Most of this last paragraph is just literary license]. However, she got her degree in Social Work and actually did help a lot of minority people get legitimate help regarding jobs, education, medical services, etc.
Perhaps the best scholarship Morgan ever gave, at least to a white woman.
PS: A lot of my high school friends and teammates went to Morgan and turned out to be very decent, hardworking people. Back then, getting an education and graduating meant something, esp. to the less fortunate. Black parents sacrificed a lot to get their children into college, and it was appreciated.
Today, getting many black students to study and graduate from High School is, sadly, a Herculean chore. My how times have changed, for the worst.
To #36. If Rachel Dolezal is both black and an American Indian, then she obviously belongs to the BLACKFOOT TRIBE.
Problem solves!
There is also a wedding picture out there. She is an adult. And she is still very white and very blond with straight hair. Everything about her is a fake.
Rachel Dolezal for Elizabeth Warren’s running mate for VP! 1/64th Cherokee, 0% black, 100% liars!
Apparently Mike Wendling has never heard the term “useful idiots” or what it refers to ... and I’m not talking about her racial heritage claims.
Seems he was anxious to believe all of it.
So the author is saying that she is good at telling lies.
I thought blacks had a secret handshake.... whoops.
“Dark roots?” Yessir, a dye job. Wheres the brown contacts?
If Bruce Jenner doesnt make enough money on his transformation, maybe he can claim he/she’s lesbian and black.
May be worth some cash.
He believed what he wanted to believe. Just another day in the life of a “journalist”.
