House Democrats rebuffed a dramatic personal appeal from President Obama on Friday, torpedoing his ambitious push to expand his trade negotiating power and, quite likely, his chance to secure a legacy-defining trade accord spanning the Pacific Ocean.

No catch, Congressman don't like pressure from the WH.
The Constitution was set up to make each branch jealous of their own power.
Obama is a lameduck, and the Congressman have to run again.

They always say that.
When Obamacare collapses, they will claim it is a win for Obama.

The whole ‘free trade’ idea is a misnomer. It is free for our supposed partners and extremely expensive for the USA. We lose jobs, manufacturers go overseas, the other nations cheat, and the little return we do see is them shipping billions of cheap American knockoffs back to us for our newly hired, $7 an hour stockers to put on the shelves at Dollar General and WalMart. None of these ‘free trade’ deals have helped the working man or small business.
Besides, no president should have the power to sign secret deals or near secret deals. What were we thinging!?

It’s the beginning of the end of for the Republicans. Leadership have soured their brand badly by this aborted deal with the devil. Even Cruz fell off the political cliff over this one. We need a new party that the majority of the citizens in this country and heeds the consent of the governed. At this time, we have government of the cabal, by the cabal and for the cabal.

No, the Democrats who have to face reelection aren't going to sell out the Unions for a lame duck President.
It was a loss for Obama and the GOP leadership.

It took Democrats to kill their President’s bill, Republicans pushed hard to the end to pass it.

I dont understand this whole thing. You're not alone - only emperor Hussein and his butt boy, Little Johnny Boehner, know what's in it. That's what comes when you have "SECRET" bills that no one is allowed to read - 'You have to pass it before you can find out what's in it!'.
Somehow I doubt that the Founding Fathers would've tolerated this.

I heard something to the effect that the RINOS were against the "displaced worker" bill, and the Dems for it.
And the without that bill, the trade bill was derailed.
Reminds me of how the BHO twisted the meaning of "displaced worker" to include the union that struck and killed off the twinkie company. Continental Bakeries, maybe?

Who'd have guessed we'd be cheering for the Dems? But quite frankly, without knowing what was in the bill, it's hard to tell who was right or wrong.
Except that they wouldn't tell us what was in the bill, so it is right to automatically reject anything that hasn't seen the light of day, very similar to obalahblahcare. If I don't know what's in it, then I can't vote for it, right? I just can't believe I am on the side of mostly democrats on this...the world truly has turned upside down.

1) If the bill failing is true, I am surprised. When the vote was scheduled I assumed it would be an establishment win. They don’t schedule votes without knowing in advance the outcome.
2) If the bill failing is true, it is temporary. The Senate did the same thing, with the same players, too. Democrats rejected this deal in the Senate, too, and Obama, using every tool from NSA records to offers of wealth, changed their minds. Same thing applies here.
