House Democrats rebuffed a dramatic personal appeal from President Obama on Friday, torpedoing his ambitious push to expand his trade negotiating power and, quite likely, his chance to secure a legacy-defining trade accord spanning the Pacific Ocean.

Not so sure about that.
“It doesnt matter. The people with an agenda, dont care what you or Ted says. They know better about this bill than Cruz. And, amazingly, he is now the biggest traitor running....
These people need to get a grip. Cruz is still the best.”
I agree. I’ve been very confused about this whole issue but I’ve concluded that it’s good this thing is killed — for now. That said, Cruz and Walker were both in favor of this, and in my view there are no other declared and likely candidates worth supporting. So even though I’m not with him on this issue, I’m still wholeheartedly supporting Cruz until these naysayers show me a viable alternative.
Yay Congressman Posey........and Daniel Webster and Congressman Yoho of FLORIDA!!!!!
It’s confusing. This is what CSPAN has been showing at the bottom of the screen:
House Fails to Pass Trade Adjustment Assistance Bill 126-202
House Passes Trade Promotion Authority Bill 219-211
House Passes Trade Enforcement and Customs Bill 240-190
I think fast track might have passed, but it is believed that the TPP will not pass as long as the Trade Adjustment Assistance Bill has not been passed.
They might come back to it all later. But it is not very clear the way so many a reporting it now.
The roll call vote least appears to be incomplete. I count 34 Rs there who voted no. So there should be at least another 82 to 75 Rs who voted no for TPP/TAA.
Does anyone have a link to the voting record on who voted which way?
It was all a play. They will now put forward an acceptable TAA, and all 3 will have been passed. Wonderful showmanship and sleight-of-hand on their part, but I now despise the republicans. Why should they worry about me?
They are the masters of the universe...so they think.

The Stupid Party remains the plutocrats defending the corporations and the wealthy. Is it any wonder that the Reps will not win a Presidential election for many years to come?
And we all know that this will all go the way of Obama after some phony fixes are made to protect American workers. This is all theater.
No, the Dems are playing political theater. Obama will get his way after the Dems force some phony fixes to protect the American worker. The Reps will get the blame, rightfully, once this is implemented and American workers get shafted once again due to “free trade.”
That should be '302' votes against.
Looks like that's correct, but there sure is some confused and misleading reporting going on at many news outlets. Most are still saying Obamatrade has been defeated, - humililated - as if there is some finality.
Don’t you think it would be a good thing to start a Benedict Arnold List on FR?
Now they can resurrect him as a bi-partisan, negotiating genius.
Exactly. Their objection was based on the TAA amount and timeframe. So long as the slush fund and duration are sufficient length and depth, they’re fine with everything else. Nothing even closely related to principles involved here.
Yep, when I was posting I assumed those were bill numbers. I was too irritated to really think about it at the time.
The House just dumped country of origin labels because of a NAFTA court ruling. It was that or tariffs on US meat.
So your boy Cruz is obfuscating at best, or just outright lying.
Obama hurt his own chances by insulting a number of the Democrats.
The guy is just obnoxious.
