How Seinfeld became a bad joke: The threat of a hyper-vigilant left-wing outrage machine has been greatly exaggerated
Jerry Seinfeld is the latest brave middle-aged white man to weigh in on the creepy ascendance of humorless p.c. SJW anti-free-speech scolds. We know the drill nowweve heard it from comedians like Seinfeld and Patton Oswalt and, to a lesser degree, Louis C.K. and Chris Rock. Weve heard it packaged in a different format from Very Serious media commentators like Jonathan Chait, Laura Kipnis and, most recently, an anonymous white male adjunct professor whose left-wing students terrify him.
Its a familiar, tired drill. Point to instances of creeping overreaction by angry left-wing young people in the classroom, at protests and especially on Tumblr or Twitter. Portray these forces as a terrifying, swelling horde of enforcers with the power to totally destroy the lives of good old hardworking members of the chattering class like yourself. Talk about how this army of Social Justice Stormtroopers has successfully create a stifling Orwellian monoculture, especially on the Internet, where all of us live in constant fear of saying anything the least bit offensive lest our lives be ruined and as a result all online discourse has been stripped down to the level of catchphrase-spewing party apparatchiks seeking to avoid Stalinist purges.
This is clearly an extremely compelling narrative when it comes to a lot of peoples personal fears, because its a narrative they spin out of comparatively little evidence. Its not that theres no such thing as a left-wing witch hunt or that people havent been harmed by them its that, for something thats so scary that it warrants trend piece after trend piece on a biweekly basis, it seems pretty hard for these pundits to come up with actual examples of harm to themselves.

The comedian spoke to ESPN Radio host Colin Cowherd for an episode of "The Herd with Colin Cowherd" to promote the latest season of "Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee," and the two talked about political correctness and comedy. Cowherd commented how comedians like Chris Rock and Larry the Cable Guy won't perform at college campuses for this very reason.
"I hear that all the time," Seinfeld said. "I don't play colleges, but I hear a lot of people tell me, 'Don't go near colleges. They're so PC.' I'll give you an example: My daughter's 14. My wife says to her, 'Well, you know, in the next couple years, I think maybe youre going to want to be hanging around the city more on the weekends, so you can see boys.' You know what my daughter says? She says, Thats sexist. They just want to use these words: 'Thats racist'; 'Thats sexist'; 'Thats prejudice.' They dont know what theyre talking about.

Well, that was a fire hose of idiomatic vomit.
And the destructionist that wrote that article proved Mr. Seinfeld absolutely correct.
Btw, Arthur Chu has been neck deep on the SJW stormtrooper side of things re: the Sad Puppies campaign and GamersGate.
Chu bites.
One thing that I've noticed is a huge increase in posts referencing articles from Salon, and it's really perplexing trying to figure out what in heck many of the Salon writers are trying to say in these articles.
None of them make any sense. It's like reading an incomprehensible stream-of-conciousness rant citing people, places, and events that nobody has ever heard of !
Yes, I know that this is the manner in which many lefties 'debate', but it surely boggles the mind how any of them can comprehend what the other is saying ....
Eeenywees, that's my take on it, and dammitJIM I'm sticking to it :)
Peace & Love,
Mr. Moonlight

He protests just a little too much.
Looks like Chu hates Jooz...
I thought about "Sad Puppies" when I read this:
"...it seems pretty hard for these pundits to come up with actual examples of harm to themselves."
Yes. It’s fascinating. The amount that is generated - the endless, angry pieces. I find them to be a clear window on what we’re up against (their fears, their delusions, their brainwashed ignorant worldviews). A lot of this has been absorbed by several generations now (they’ve been “educated” don’t you know) and we need to take a long look at what they’re saying, thinking, doing.
The left has moved so far left that people who were liberals a decade ago are now right-wing bigots. lol.
But we are the extremists... lol
bump
Tor Books is so SJW their new sales strategy is to call their own authors and customers neo-nazi’s and all that.
lol
That should be good for business.
61 is middle-aged?
Yes
I read the article and my eyes crossed...I hate trying to read shit like this, makes me dizzy. In the end it’s WTF did he just say
30 years ago when I was only eighteen years old I was a liberal it took me going to college and seeing the group think that was going on to make me conservative. I am very thankful that I had a conservative poly-scie teacher for my intro to politics class. he was a retired CIA agent. in class he predicted the Orwellian path that liberalism is going down. when ever more liberal students contradicted what he was teaching in his class he would refer to George Orwell’s Animal Farm
