WASHINGTON (AP) Under threat of trade retaliation from Canada and Mexico, the House has voted to to repeal a law requiring country-of-origin labels on packages of beef, pork and poultry.
The World Trade Organization rejected a U.S. appeal last month, ruling the labels that say where animals were born, raised and slaughtered are discriminatory against the two U.S. border countries. Both have said they plan to ask the WTO for permission to impose billions of dollars in tariffs on American goods.
The House voted 300-131 to repeal labels that tell consumers what countries the meat is from for example, "born in Canada, raised and slaughtered in the United States" or "born, raised and slaughtered in the United States."

It seems to me they are representing the foreign countries and NOT...., We The People.
No complaining folks.
If elected, we will work with President Obama
- Mitch and Jonbon.
My guess is that the foreign countries have outbid the American voter.
“Why are the feds interested in hiding what country our food came from?”
- inquiring minds want to know . . .
American Cattle Raisers thrown to the curb :(
However, the American voter is more well-armed.
“The World Trade Organization rejected a U.S. appeal last month, ruling the labels that say where animals were born, raised and slaughtered are discriminatory against the two U.S. border countries.”
Newsflash: WTO and RINOs protect, represent, love, and want to spread MAD COW DISEASE.
Mexico sued the USA in the WTO to force this change.
Oh, and WTO was the result of ANOTHER huge Fast-tracked trade deal...The Marrakech Agreement of 1995.
In order to not run afoul of these, seemingly binding, agreements, the US House has overturned a very popular law in the US. The Senate and POTUS will soon follow.
With TPP it'll probably be illegal to label baby formula with country of origin.
This is because of a NAFTA court ruling. This multi country free trade agreements do mean the end of popular sovereignty.
Well I guess it’s an opportunity for American beef farmers to demand that their meat is labeled “Raised and harvested in America” just to set it apart from the rest.
Meh. We raise our own now.
And anticipating this sort of, eh, baloney is one reason we moved to rural KY from Seattle. We didn’t see many “SPECIFIC” changes coming, but we saw the personality of the world we were approaching. We’d rather do it from a position of “self sufficiency if necessary”. Turns out it is. And it isn’t just this meat thing...
They're not.
They have removed the requirement that these meats be labeled as such. They can still be labeled but Uncle Sam cannot compel the labels to be used.
To leave the law in place would have resulted in huge tariffs on American goods entering Canada and Mexico. I'm all for less Gubmint regulation.
It’s time for conservatives to dump the free trade ideology.
A tariff is government regulation/
So you are a proponent of foreign governments regulating us, rather than the US.
OK.
As a side note, I certainly expect this sort of thing to spread. Eventually (and maybe sooner than later), country-of-origin info will disappear altogether.
Then you won't know if your soup crackers were made in an inspected US plant or in a filthy Chinese back alley.
But, hey, it will improve the bottom lines of the manufacturers. And the politicians will get their campaign “contributions” (bribes). So it's all good.
Bad call. My tie says “Made in Italy”. My car says “Made in England”. My bicycle says “Made in USA”. My beer says “Made in Germany” (or “Canada”). My wine “Switzerland”, “Italy”, “France”, or “California”. Those labels are required, and I would ask for the information if it wasn’t there. I’d like to know where my food comes from too.
Looks to me like this and so many other nonsensical things government negotiates/agrees to are simply an effort to shift the NWO into high gear.
I don’t know who the real puppet masters are, but seems the final nails are now being pounded in America’s coffin.
Get ready for lots of contaminated food. Cosmopolitanism is going to kill us.
I would just assume that the US tell foreign governments to go pound sand...but economically, that would be bad for us.
Free Trade =
The United States Still Pays Tariffs to other countries while other countries, like China, pay no Tariffs to the United States.
Oh and if a company wants to stay in the United States then the feds will tax and regulate the business in order to death.
It’s like playing a poker game where one side can cheat and the other side can not.
Then the feds try to sell you this as “fair” poker instead of rigged poker.
It’s a lose lose scenario for the Unites States and a Win Win for other countries.
