The Dallas-area police officer criticized for aggressively handling teenagers at a pool party, shown in a viral video, has gone into hiding and "apologizes to all who were offended," his attorney said Wednesday..
McKinney Police Cpl. Eric Casebolt had been emotionally unsettled by two suicide calls he had handled shortly before responding to calls of trespassing and assault at a raucous pool party Friday evening, his police union attorney, Jane Bishkin of Dallas, told reporters in a televised news conference.

In the first suicide call, a man had shot and killed himself in front of his children and his family, and Casebolt consoled the man's wife while securing the body and the scene, said Bishkin, who said that the dead man was African American.
In the second suicide call, Casebolt had to calm a teenage girl who was threatening to jump off her parents' roof, and she was safely taken to a hospital, Bishkin said.
“Eric’s compassion during these two incidents are a testament to his character," Bishkin said. “The nature of these two suicide calls took an emotional toll an Eric Casebolt."

Yes indeed, and it calls into question just where his immediate supervisor was in all of this. If this account is correct, Casebolt should have been sent home for the day at the minimum. He was clearly out of control during the video and his stress level was probably at least a contributing factor.
You put the entire Atomic Spotlight of the World Media attention on you insinuating you are a racist, you add death threats, and getting fired from your job, there are very few men who would not knuckle under to such pressure.
Whether you did nothing wrong has nothing to do with it. When enough people hate you, it can cause immense damage to your life and career. This is just a salvage operation for this guy.
It's the only way he sees of attempting to get out of this mess.
It is the “optics” of the scene. He will never live it down.

What, you mean the guys who showed up later? After he had to deal with all that rabble by himself? Yeah, it's a lot easier to retain composure when you are not the only guardian of civilization on the field.
I think the cop totally overreacted to the situation-but there were supposedly several 911 calls from residents complaining about the party crashing and rowdy goings-on, and the DJ the hostess hired apparently screwed up by not mentioning the pool was part of the subdivision amenities and not open to the public.
There appears to be plenty of blame to go around-want to bet the HOA will ask the family of the hostess to move, or that they get sued for damages? I hope so-the clueless little twit nearly caused a riot...
And the outside agitators should be told to leave or risk being held responsible if anything else happens-or maybe just put them back on the bus that brought them...
He didn’t get fired. He quit.
This really puts a different spin on the video, and his behavior there, which looked “bad”. Obviously , he was in an extremely stressed state of mind, but that won’t be a factor to those who will not relent on pushing their agenda. It is GOOD to have the facts, come what may! ALL these cases are different, and he shouldn’t have resigned after all. Maybe he has come to a personal breaking point with police work.
Well I absolutely disagree. I can't say at all that he was "Clearly out of control." I know that's what the media and the perpetually aggrieved immediately said, but I don't respond to mental games.
I saw that big guy run up on him while he was trying to make that girl lie down, and I didn't think pulling his gun was at all unreasonable. Are you aware of what has been happening with large crowds of unruly urban teenagers nowadays?
I also note the actual residents of that community are supporting what the officer did.
People keep repeating that he was the only one there, but the video clearly shows him arriving at the scene with another officer.
And the Media take another head.
He shouldn’t have apologized.
That's a damn good point. Maybe the McKinney PD doesn't have the staffing to do this, but I would think that an officer responding to two suicide calls (one ultimately successful suicide, apparently in front of the officer) should be allowed to go home for the day, to prevent just this very thing from happening. Or, at the very least, let him stay in the stationhouse for the rest of his shift, cataching up on paperwork, etc.

When a PD, sheriff’s dept or any other law enforcement agency wants an officer to leave after an incident like this, rather than fire him/her, they usually remind that officer that if they resign, they will still get their accumulated benefits-if they are fired with cause, they will not-most will go to keep the bennies they worked for-that even happened out here several years ago after a bunch of deputies were busted at a wife swap party in a gated neighborhood where 2 of them lived...
The officer has been given a lawyer by a police association-I wonder if that means he can sue, as well as be sued?

What I have seen is that some of the residents believe that overall, the McKinney Cops did the right thing, but they also didn’t like the display of a weapon. Hindsight is always 20/20, and the fact of the matter is that the cops should have waited a few minutes if necssary, to make sure they had sufficient numbers to take control of the situation. It isn’t as though the place was some kind of war zone, and as you can see, the “optics” were bad for the officer who waded in rather than waiting for backup. He might have been a very good cop under most circumstances, now thanks to his behavior, he’s never going to be a cop again. That may be unfair, but that’s how it’s played out.
I heard on our local news break, an *activist* saying his resigning was not enough....that this officer “needed to be charged....and, the woman who was involved (?) needs to be charged, too”.
Doubtful, not by a long shot. He will probably be sued, so will the PD and city. There are already death threats and for his family to be hunted down. National agitators like the NBP are on the way there.
