On Wednesday night, U.S. Senator Ted Cruz (TX-R) essentially tied Senator Marco Rubio in Florida Family Policy Council’s GOP Presidential Straw Poll in Orlando, Fl.
Marco Rubio got 33.7% of the vote whereas Ted Cruz came in a close second with 30.7%.
Jeb Bush and Scott Walker both came in third-place with 8.9% each, Rick Santorum 6.7%, Rand Paul 4.5%, Ben Carson 3.4%, Mike Huckabee 2.2% and Rick Perry 1.1%.
The other 2016 GOP candidates: Chris Christie, Carly Fiorina, Lindsey Graham, Bobby Jindal and John Kasich didn’t get any votes.
Political analysts have since viewed this poll as a victory for Ted Cruz. They say he is reinforcing the idea that America’s Conservative voters are deciding early who to rally behind.
The Florida Family Policy Council event was moderated by attorney John Stemberger. He provided an examination of individual candidate strengths and weaknesses prior to the straw poll vote. Decision leads included Carl Stevens, Florida Senator Alan Hayes, Sara Johnson, Byran Empric, Karin Hoffman and Pastor Kurt Kelly.
During the event, Senator Alan Hayes was also recognized for his accomplishments and dedication to successfully passing legislation protecting unborn children in the state.
From the audio of Ted Cruz's interview (WRKO Town Hall with Ted Cruz, May 30, 2015, Hour 2), for TPA, the legislation has been 6 years in making. President should have an authority to negotiate the trade deal until it is finalized, then send the bill to the Congress for up-or-down vote with no amendment. (Otherwise, President has to go back and re-negotiate. How long will it take to get it done? That's why it is called Fast Track)
In response to people who are afraid that he voted to give more power to Obama, he said that he didn't trust Obama at all. Obama won't be in the office in 19 months. He looked into the future for the next president to have an authority to negotiate. Hopefully, the next president will be a Republican, especially him. Now is the time to get it passed with Democrats. If we wait for the next administration (Republican), Democrats in Congress will vote it down no matter what.
For TPP, he said it was stupid to have the text classified. He READ the TPP. It was relatively a straightforward trade agreement. He didnt have weeks to study each paragraph closely. Unfortunately, from the past history of the administrations abuse of power, the secrecy gives the impression that they are hiding something horrible in the bill. Fortunately, under TPA they have to make any trade agreement, including TPP, public for 60 days before the Congress can vote on it. People can study closely at this time. But personally he wanted the text public right now.
And SOON. Cruz’ opponents are gaining too much traction with the confusion and misunderstanding of TPP/A.
Thanks, I’ve listened to that interview quite a few times. Maybe we should ask his spokesman to give us a fuller statement that we can use against those who would de-rail Cruz.
Yep. Heard it several times over, Been posting it on FR all over the place.
The TPA as I understand it is a normal thing. It’s the TPP that is the problem.
Cruz is in no hurry...many months to go. Laying low while consolidating the base is the right way to go.
Judging by the butt-wupping Cruz is taking today for supporting ObamaTrade you might want to sit home on election day and watch your favorite reruns on Netflix.
At least you present a reasoned and detailed response as to why you support ObamaTrade, but as more of the ugly facts come out about ObamaTrade, I refuse to support any politician that supports this.
Anyways, there has been scores of former Cruz-supporting Freepers today echoing my sentiments that he cannot be trusted.
And I am happy that Senator Sessions listens to his constituents.
And if you know anything about the people of Alabama, they do not fear anybody.
Heck, that is one of the reasons I moved down here, to be away from that purple state of Wisconsin, that somehow elects RINOS from hell who hate America.
I voted for Walker once, then I saw how he ignored us Tea Party voters during the union protests up at the Capitol in Madison. He angered many Conservatives then, and I know many Conservatives in Wisconsin who will not vote for him again. So after closely examining his flip-flopping governorship record on conservative issues, I came to see that he’s a Chamber of Commerce lackey. And now I will never vote for him.
What you have said should be front page full thread here on Free Republic to stem the tide of the full blown false propaganda that he been repeated here.
I encourage you to start a full page thread of what you have explained what Ted Cruz voted for, and that he actually stopped Obama from trying to sneak in amnesty in TTP.
Ted Cruz has a lot of money in his campaign chest, don’t count him out.
Jeb Bush can’t get his training wheels on right.
The time to coalise behind one conservative candidate is now before Jeb Bush can gain traction.
That’s why you have many here on FR and in the media trying to knock Ted Cruz down because they do not want a real conservative for many to coalise around early.
Jeb is hoping the support for a conservative is thinned out and weak, that’s why you have, Rand Paul, Mike Huckabee and others to thin out the herd.
That is almost funny.
Cruz has not, is not and never will get a “butt-wupping” from any internet trolls.
You have clearly identified what you are. You won’t last long on FR.
Because the Cruz haters lie ?
Parrot propagandist
But guess what ? There constant lying propaganda isn’t working and it won’t work.
Yup, A PaulBot Neonut.
Probably one of your best!!
> “At least you present a reasoned and detailed response as to why you support ObamaTrade, but as more of the ugly facts come out about ObamaTrade, I refuse to support any politician that supports this.”
Just to be clear, I do not support ‘Obamatrade’, rather I support ‘Cruztrade’.
Senator Jeff Sessions is doing an heroic job at calling out the dangers of Obamatrade. But I will bet serious cookies that Senator Jeff will be all in support for President Cruz to wield TPA once he’s in the Oval Office.
Because it’s not TPA that is the problem, it’s the person authorized to wield its powers.
And Ted Cruz is calculating that Obama will have no real time to get any trade deals done using TPA because there’s a full election cycle coming up and pols in Washington DC are not going to hunker themselves down to one of Obama’s trade deals when they need to be out and about campaigning.
Therefore, the longer that Sessions via Duncan Hunter can hold the House up on TPA, the less time Obama and his administration have to start a trip around the globe to get a trade deal in place. and the more time a President such as Ted Cruz will get to put a different trade deal in place. Running out the clock is important here.
But we must remain aware that Obama can veto the TPA in the form that Congress hands it to him.
Right and Cruz has said he hasn’t committed to vote on TPP yet.
What really irritates me is the constant push by Freepers to support the hypocritical BS being fed to us by the 'elites' in Washington.
RINO Paul Ryan from my former state of Wisconsin snapped today that "you will get a chance to read ObamaTrade after we pass it."
This is Pelosi-esque language used for ObamaCare, which is one of this site's main goals to attack and repeal because of how it hurts Conservatives throughout America!
Your attacks on me are wrong and liberal-esque in nature!
Furthermore, he must state that he will wait until he is President to explore the possibility of creating a CruzTrade bill and only in an open and transparent manner with the people of America.
These are my conditions, and probably of many of the former Cruz-supporters who feel betrayed by him.
