Jill Dillard: "They're used to exploiting women."
In an interview with Fox News host Megyn Kelly that ran on Friday, two of the Duggar daughters who were victims of their brother’s inappropriate sexual touching called out the magazine that illegally released the records that not only revealed the identity of their brother Josh (who was a juvenile at the time), but also indirectly identified the victims.
Jill Dillard, the second daughter of Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar, told Kelly that she suspected there might be an agenda behind the story. “I mean, I know that the tabloids that released this, even have — you know, they’re used to exploiting women. They have the parent company –”
“Well, Bauer…they’re a major porn provider…” her sister Jessa Seewald interrupted.
“So I don’t know if they are — maybe their mindset, they’re just used to making objects out of women and maybe we just didn’t seem any different,” Seewald continued.
Jill and Jessa are members of the conservative Christian family that has been featured in the reality TV series 19 Kids and Counting, and the young women are spot on about the background of the company that publishes In Touch magazine.
Bauer Media Group, based in Hamburg, Germany, publishes 600 magazines, over 400 digital products, and 50 radio and TV stations around the world, including In Touch magazine, the publication that uncovered the story of the abuse in the Duggar home. They also traffic in porn — some of it Nazi-themed., as you’ll see on the next page.

But an investigation by TheWrap has found that there is a darker side to the privately held company, including publication of at least one magazine appealing to neo-Nazis, as well as significant involvement in the distribution of pornography — including Nazi-themed porn movies.
These lend perspective to Bauer’s legal woes in the United States, including a $50 million defamation lawsuit by Tom Cruise, filed last October after two U.S.-based publications alleged he’d abandoned his daughter Suri. In fact, Bauer generates dozens of legal complaints worldwide each year about invasion of privacy or libel, according to a lawyer who has frequently opposed them.
The Duggar sisters are absolutely correct. In Touch and Bauer Media Group make money, in part, by exploiting women and trafficking in content that sexually objectifies women. The young women in the Duggar family who were victims of sexual abuse by their brother were victimized a second time by a magazine that treated them, not as accidental collateral damage in their honest efforts to report a legitimate news story, but as an integral part of a business model based on sexual exploitation of women. They exploited the sexual abuse suffered by the Duggar sisters for money, pure and simple. And they’ve done it with countless other women over the years. Disgusting.
Josh will have to wear this all of his life.

As the victim of sexual assault as a child by another older child, I could not agree with you more. My situation is different than this one, but I am here to say that things like this don’t wreck the lives of people forever. They just don’t.

Exactly. They knew that someone reported them to the Oprah show, so sealed records weren't enough to keep this episode secret. If they were truly interested in protecting all their children, that fact alone should have shut down all their negotiations with TLC.
So bottom line is that it was all about the money.

When I was 15 my little sister was 5 and this is something that was not on my radar.

PRETTY sure the whole family has forgiven Josh because he changed his ways.
Well, both Josh and you will wear something, but they're different things.
Josh will wear making a mistake, admitting it, making amends, learning to live a better life, being supported in love for his efforts and actually changing for the better - for the rest of his life.
You will wear your refusal to forgive him, despite anything he's done to make amends - for the rest of your life.
And you both will have to live up to your own judgements, for the rest of your lives.
Seems fair to me.
Yes...he needs to be KILLED or LOCKED UP FOR LIFE!! Oh, and the girls need 24/7 counseling, and the parents need to have the rest of their children taken from them!!! NOTHING ELSE WOULD SATISFY you People.

That response wasn’t even a refutation of what you said.
The time for any legally binding punishment for Josh has passed. I am not sure if how this was dealt with at the time was insufficient and I guess that won’t be known until he passes on with no additional victims. All that is not a defense of him.
I found that more dorky than anything else, although in poor taste. His daughter was mortified.

By his own admission Josh declared his behavior at the time and continues to do so today.

Me: No, at the time, he hid his behavior and snuck into their bedrooms to molest them while they slept or fondled them while he distracted them by reading a book in order to escape detection. Today, he has no choice but to admit it.

The truth in this family matter is was a crime committed and or was it covered up. Legalities come into play then.

ME: Well, no, not the truth. Do you mean “the real issue....”? If so, I think it’s only part of the issue. The other parts include why didn’t the family protect their daughters and why is there a public effort to imply the daughters needed no protection from their molestor, and why should the molestor remain without legal consequences (e.g., sex offender registry) because he’s really really sorry (for molesting his 5 year old sister), and why should the Duggars retain their “role model status” in the public eye given that they have not admitted their failures and why don’t they seemt to care how their denial of their daughter’s abuse makes their daughters feel.

Frankly it should all just be forgotten...but many have a monetary stake in this family besides the family so it’s going to keep being played out....

ME: Can’t agree with you. If the DUggars hadn’t inked a book deal while knowing what lay in their family’s past, the eventual revelation of the abuse would not be on the national news and exposing their daughters to instrusive media etc.
I believe that whatever happens now should acknowledge their daughters trauma, the failure of the Duggars to protect their daughters (and the parents private, humble apology to the daugthers for this failure, the decision to put the family’s personal lives on TV as role models which further denied their abuse and exposed them to inappropriate intrustive reportage), the fact that Josh’s behavior toward his sisters is not normal or without conseuences and the registration of Josh in the sexual offenders registry because there isn’t a cure for those who molest children.
