I chose life. That is to say, I defaulted on my student loans.
As difficult as it has been, Ive never looked back. The millions of young people today, who collectively owe over $1 trillion in loans, may want to consider my example.

Deceptive posting and suspension[edit]
In September 2006, Siegel was suspended from The New Republic, after an internal investigation determined he was participating in misleading comments in the magazine’s “Talkback” section, in response to criticisms of his blog postings at The New Republic’s website and vicious attacks on his character.[5] The comments were made through the device of a “sock puppet” dubbed “sprezzatura”, who, as one reader noted, was a consistently vigorous defender of Siegel, and who specifically denied being Siegel when challenged by another commenter in “Talkback”. In response to readers who had criticized Siegel’s negative comments about TV talk show host Jon Stewart, ‘sprezzatura’ wrote, “Siegel is brave, brilliant, and wittier than Stewart will ever be. Take that, you bunch of immature, abusive sheep”.[6] The New Republic posted an apology and shut down Siegel’s blog. In an interview with the New York Times Magazine, Siegel dismissed the incident as a “prank”. He resumed writing for The New Republic in April 2007.[7]

If this is the same Lee Siegel then he seems to have the same moral compass in his professional life as well.
I’m still paying back student loans. This guy p*sses me off..
It sounds to me like he made private loans with a private bank before the no-bankruptcy rule was in place. If that is the case, then the bank made a bad bet.
Being able to nullify the degree thus obtained sounds fascinating. With the full panoply of safeguard against error of course (a state just dunned me for tax I had already paid, if I didn’t need a reminder of the need for that).
Also, I do believe this is one more step on the liberal road to socialism. They can’t have things like contracts getting in the way.
It is perfectly acceptable now to take out a loan and default on it with no consequences.
I’m surprised there was some kind of government program that gives money to people default on their loans, so they can work towards getting a better and default on it with no consequences.
I’m surprised there was some kind of government program that gives money to people default on their loans, so they can work towards getting a better credit rating or improving their self-esteem.
Just unbelievable.
I can easily imagine how much it pisses you off. But you’ll have something that Jack ass will never have: self-respect, and the respect of people whose respect actually means something.
I have a better idea; see my post at number 55
It would seem appropriate for a POS like this....and those who think and act like him.
This is not a twist of fate..this is deliberate.
But even that melts before God, who has power to forgive and power to condemn to hell.
Darn spell correction What I meant to say was “I’m surprised there isn’t some kind of government program ”
This is wicked and not in constitutional law.
Deal with the defaulter in whatever constitutional method is available, or amend the constitution if you don’t like it and think you can.
Excuses excuses
Maybe they'd stop loaning money to liberal arts students who have no future outside of working as a Barista at Starbucks.
Heh, trying to do this on a mobile device is a real challenge! Especially when trying to do some kind of HTML thing...:)
Now, finishing my cigar and beer, getting out of the hammock, and going back in the house to give my opinions in a far more efficient way!
It appears he has made money as a result of his education. He should have his tax refund seized..
I think people who are on the fence and feeling some sympathy for this guy, should give a little thought to who is covering his expenses.
Someone has to pay real money to give to those overpriced professors at those outrageously overpriced universities.
you are a jackass and I’m damned tired of donating my money to useless drains on society who provide NOTHING.
